Not surprisingly, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been ranked as the NHL’s most valuable franchise. The sports business website Sportico indicated that the Leafs and NY Rangers are the two franchises who are valued over $3 billion, with Toronto at $3.66 billion and New York at $3.25 billion.

The club’s value is calculated according to “the sum of the enterprise value of an NHL franchise, combined with the value of team-related businesses and real estate holdings” according to the report. The Leafs value increased 38% from 2023 ($2.65 billion) and more than $1.5 billion from the $2.12 billion the Leafs were valued in 2022.

The Leafs are getting close to having to make some roster moves with defenseman Jani Hakanpaa and Connor Dewar traveling and skating with the club, but in a move that didn’t affect their upcoming cap dilemma, the club re-assigned center Fraser Minten to the AHL Toronto Marlies.

The 20-year-old suffered a high-ankle sprain after being tripped by Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Reinbacher and missed all of training camp and the first month of the regular season, but the former Team Canada World Junior team captain will likely get a healthy chunk of playing time in the top six in the AHL.
