The Pittsburgh Penguins fell to the Detroit Red Wings in overtime by a score of 3-2. It was a battle of two lowly teams doing lowly team things. Outside of Crosby earning a point nothing of significance happened during the game and that’s how a lot of these are going to go for now.

The real attraction last night was Evgeni Malkin’s 500th goal ceremony which took place before the game last night.

These are nice moments which provide a nice distraction from the on-ice play. With Sid only two goals away from 600 we’ll have some more distractions in the not so distant future.

Speaking of Sidney Crosby, we still have people catering to the lowest common denominator talking about potential trade destinations for him. He signed an extension two months ago. It takes a special kind of stupid or the superpower of not feeling shame to be bringing something like that up when the ink has barely dried on the contract. The idea Crosby wasn’t privy to the big picture plans of the Penguins when he signed on the dotted line in September is willful ignorance. He could have chosen any team he wanted this upcoming summer. He didn’t.

Penguins fans are very aware that Erik Karlsson’s attention to detail on defense isn’t exactly dialed in. His former coach in Sweden has also noticed and pretty much put him on blast saying
“His shortcomings in the defensive game are too great in such a short tournament.”

Things have been so shoddy he is catching strays from Team Sweden.

The last place Blue Jackets await the Penguins tomorrow. It could be the return of Tristan Jarry.
