The Winnipeg Jets broke a record Saturday afternoon when they defeated the Dallas Stars by the score of 4-1. Their 14-1 record is the best ever to start a season after 15 games.

First Period:

The Jets came out firing on all cylinders in the 1st period. The ice was tilted in their favor for the entire period. The Jets got a PP goal from Alex Iafallo at the 7 and a half minute mark of the period and then a patient rebound goal from Rasmus Kupari to finish the period with them up 2-0. The shots were 12-4 for the Jets.

Second Period:

The 2nd period started exactly how the 1st period ended with the Jets taking the game to the Stars. Vlad Namestnikov got a wrap-around goal for the Jets. Nikolaj Ehlers scored on the PP to give the Jets a 4-0 lead which is how the period would end.

Third Period:

Playing with the 4-0 lead, the Jets didn't push the play as much in the final frame. Roope Hintz prevented Connor Hellebuyck from getting his third consecutive shutout when he scored with 90 seconds left in the game making the final score 4-1 for the Jets.

Some takeaways from the game:

Although he did not get a shutout in this game, Hellebuyck set a new franchise record shutout streak at 191:47, surpassing the previous record of 187:05 which was set in 2014-15 by Ondrej Pavelec. I wouldn't be surprised to see Eric Comrie get the start in New York on Tuesday night.

This game was also a head to head match up of the potential starting goalies for team USA at the 4 nations cup. Although Jake Oettinger is a great goaltender, I believe Hellebuyck's multiple Vezina trophy wins gives him the edge for the job.

Unlike the latter half of the game against the Avalanche, the Jets really dominated the Stars for the first half of this game. Very impressive performance against the team that won the central division last year.

The Jets got 2 more PP goals in this game. Hopefully their new assistant coach that runs the PP is signed for many many years.

This game marked the second sellout of the season at the Canada Life Centre. Also impressive given that the Winnipeg Blue Bombers hosted the West Final later in the evening.

The Jets will now have a well deserved few nights off before they are back in action on Tuesday night in New York.
