Montreal put on a very good show tonight, storming out of the gates and scoring the first goal 18 seconds in thanks to a nice passing play from the Lehkonen-Kotkaniemi-Byron line. Tippett’s coach’s challenge for offside wasn’t successful and the Habs built up even more momentum from then on. They added a couple more goals before the end of the first frame and retreated to the locker-room leading 3-0.
The Oilers thought they had closed the gap in the 2nd period, but their goal was overturned because of a successful challenge for a missed offside call. Instead, they found themselves down by 4 when Tatar scored his 7th of the season. The 4-0 score would hold until the final whistle.
Let’s be honest here, the Canadiens played a very good game dominating in the shots department and made the most of their opportunities, but Edmonton didn’t play to the best of their abilities. Case in point, the Habs committed 14 turnovers and yet, they emerged unscattered. All of the Habs centres but Nick Suzuki (18.2%) had a good night in the faceoff circle.
Carey Price signed a shutout with 17 saves, probably one of his easiest ever, as he wasn’t put to the test too much. With this convincing win, the Canadiens put more distance between themselves and the Flames and Canucks in 4th place of the division, with a 4-point lead and having 5 games in hand. Montreal now trails Edmonton by 6 points, but also has 5 games in hand.
The Habs will play their next game in Ottawa on Thursday night and until then, we’ll be keeping an eye on the rumours swirling around the league…RDS reported tonight that the St-Louis Blues were interested in Arturri Lehkonen, but that the Habs didn’t want to move him…for now anyways. As I suggested in my March 28th blog, I would love to see Vince Dunn arrive in town…
Montréal a donné un bon spectacle ce soir, ils sont sortis très forts et ont marqué le premier but du match après 18 secondes grâce à un bon jeux de passe du trio Lehkonen-Kotkaniemi-Byron. Dave Tippett a bien tenté de faire annuler le but avec une contestation pour hors-jeu, mais sans succès et le CH a profité du jeu de puissance en découlant pour aller chercher encore plus de rythme. Ils ont pu ajouter 2 autres buts en première période et ils ont pu retourner au vestiaire avec une avance de 3-0.
Les Oilers ont cru avoir réduit l’écart en 2e mais leur but fut annulé alors que Dominique Ducharme a contesté l’entrée de zone d’Edmonton avec succès. Plutôt que de s’approcher, les Oilers ont accordé un 4e but quant Tatar a marqué son 7e de la saison. La marque de 4-0 a tenue jusqu’au coup de sifflet final.
Soyons honnêtes, les Canadiens ont joué un très bon match, dominant notamment au chapitre des tirs au but et profitant de leurs chances, mais Edmonton n’a vraiment pas joué à la hauteur de son talent. La preuve, les Habs ont commis 14 revirements ce soir et pourtant, ils s’en sont tirés indemnes. Tous les joueurs de centre, à l’exception de Nick Suzuki (18.2%), ont connu un bon match au cercle des mises en jeu.

Le CH jouera son prochain match jeudi à Ottawa et d’ici là, nous garderons un œil sur les rumeurs qui circulent dans la ligue…RDS a rapporté ce soir que les Blues de St-Louis seraient intéressé à Arturri Lehkonen, mais que les Habs ne veulent pas s’en débarrasser…pour l’instant du moins. Tel que je le suggérais dans mon blogue du 28 mars, j’aimerais bien voir Vince Dunn s’amener en ville…
