Wings fans still waiting, thoughts on Laine and Wahlstrom

Full disclosure, I’m in and out of medical stuff and it feels like there are more articles about players who can’t get a gig than those who can out there right now. We’ve seen the comps of this year’s extensions that probably affect Seider and Raymond the most. As for Berggren, your guess is as good as any. I saw an opinion that he will be stepping in for Sprong in a new role but the source, well, don’t write that down as fact at this point. I also have little interest in a media influencer/gamer visiting LCA and getting a jersey.

What has drawn my attention are the talks around Patrick Laine and Oliver Wahlstrom. Wahlstrom signed a short extension but there is some banter going about that he may still hit waivers. Please take it all with a grain of salt. Roy isn’t sold on the right shot winger for the bottom 6 and he would have to have a great camp to slot into the top 6. That in mind, let me know if any of you have any appetite to take a look at the injury prone forward.

Laine is a different case. 2 years ago there was some clamor in the contents to try and obtain the skilled forward. He, too, was derailed by injury last season and has fallen out of favor in Columbus. A massive cap hit means money having to go out and as of yesterday, the team said only one other club has reached out at this point.

So, in reality, Detroit is completely stuck while they hash out their two top RFAs. Unless CBJ is willing to take some scraps it’s doubtful this exchange could happen. Still, it’s at least some jerky to chew on while we wait this thing out. We’re at about 2 months out on the season and less than that on prospects tournament and training camp. Things will pick up, everyone has just hit the “pause” button for now.
