The 2024-25 Rangers quest for the Cup begins with the start of training camp Wednesday, September 18 with off-ice testing. Coach Peter Laviolette will meet with the media that day, and you would hope/expect questions about who will get a chance as the first line right winger and the defensive pairs should be on the agenda. The team will hold its first on-ice session on Thursday at the MSG Training Center in Tarrytown.

Training camp roster:Camp always has a lot of bodies initially and then the cuts occur. It’s a way to look at some of the kids as well as those in on a PTO. The roster looks pretty set with only a spot or two possibly in question, especially on the bottom-six. Configurations will depend on who breaks camp when it ends on Sunday, October 6.

Camp should be another high-tempo affair. Last year, everything was new. This season, they should know expectations. But I am hoping Laviolette throws in a few curve balls to keep the squad on their toes.

Roster with initial schedule:

I am looking at a few players this camp. Up front, Brennen Othmann, Adam Sykora and Brett Berard, to see how close each of them are to breaking camp or making an impact on the parent club. All three come in as long shots, especially the last two, so they will need big camps and games to start in New York and not Hartford. On defense, it’s Victor Mancini. He made great strides last year and had a solid rookie tournament. Chad Ruhwedel and Casey Fitzgerald are penciled in before him on the depth chart, but I think, Mancini is next in line if a blue liner is needed. If not him, Connor Mackey, who turned the tide last year with his fight, could get a look see.

New York will play six preseason games:
September 22 at BOS (5:00 PM ET)
September 24 vs. NYI (7:00 PM ET)
September 26 vs. BOS (7:00 PM ET)
September 30 at NJD (7:00 PM ET)
October 1 vs. NJD (7:00 PM ET)
October 4 at NYI (7:00 PM ET)
