It's very early in the season to say this, but the NHL has some coaches already on watch... Some are saying they are coaching for their lives this weekend...

on Mike Sullivan...

Perhaps the biggest name and the most surprising is that of Mike Sullivan in Pittsburgh. Sullivan is long considered a great coach who has kept the Penguins viable for a long time. However, this year the Penguins look lost and look very much like they might be ready for a change. Pittsburgh has Montreal coming in tonight and the Canadians have been at times very difficult to play against..

On Jim Montgomery...

Another highly respected name is Montgomery in Boston. The Bruins have been very lackluster, although today I did pick up a very strong Road win in Philadelphia where they looked focus for the first time in a long time. The Bruins have Seattle tomorrow, and if they can keep this up Montgomery may be safe for a little while longer. This is one of the worst starts the Bruins have had in a couple decades...

on Derek Lalonde...

We've been saying that the patience has to run out in Detroit at some point, and that even Yzerman is on alert at this point.. While that might be true, it appears that he's a coach Derek Lalonde is perhaps in more trouble....more immediately at least.. The Red Wings host to Sabres tonight..

On Patrick Roy...

Without Barzal in their lineup, the Islanders are still struggling to score goals. Only 26 goals and 11 games... Management on the island will not be shy to make a move if Lou feels it's time... Tomorrow afternoon the Islanders step in Madison Square Garden....

Could we see Coach Swapping?

It is entirely possible that any of these coaches could end up in another team this year in the NHL. We are talking about some really experienced coaches here who have a lot of respect around the league and might just need a fresh start.... One thing for sure, this kind of turmoil is extremely early this year in the NHL.
