Yes, but why is he falling so much? Seems a little extreme
- IceColdBeer

If he is at 25, I think TM trades up for him.

We have plenty of ammo to trade up, but it seems like TM is having trouble finding a partner to do so.

Not sure if he is having trouble I just think most deals are going to be made on draft day which makes sense since every GM wants to see how the first round shakes out

Are you suggesting we could trade up for the McDavid pick should we fail to get it?
- Herzeleid

I was just trying to say you don't have to completely tank, you can get better now by adding one or two of those guys and still have a great shot at the top 2 guys in next years draft due to the islanders pick, and the fact we could be better but still probably a bottom 5 team, along with the assets we have if management is set on mcdavid or eichel.

Nah, he'll have no prob trading up a few slots.

Thing is, teams will want to see if anybody "falls" to their pick before trading out.

It's gonna be a draft day based transaction.

True, hope you're right. At the same time, drafting three times in the second round makes it likely we'll have another NHL player out of those three.

Frenchy has Kapanen falling to 30 in his mock.

Is he is there at 20-25 do you think Buffalo should trade up and try and grab him?

- ImThatGuy

I'd do my best to get into the 15 range, whether that takes one or two trades. There's elite potential offense in that range still.

I picked on the Isles fans the other day:

Buffalo finishes last in the league again next year, wins the lottery with the Isles pick.

IMO its either finish worst and get one of McDavid or Eichel (assuming there is no change to the lottery) or don't expect getting one of those players unless we get lucky. No team is going to trade out of the 1 or 2 slot in the 2015 draft no matter what you offer up unless you are sending Crosby their way.

Dream scenario!!!! It would be even better if the Islanders missed the playoffs by a point and won the lottery too!!!! But that's just mean thinking on my part. I expect to draft 1 or 2 with our pick and somewhere in the 7-14 range with the Islanders pick.

Don't we have a third first next year from STL as well?

Meeting this morning had discussions about Draitsal (sorry about spelling). One scout called him the next Malkin due to size and skill. Reinhart has been on top of their board all year but the discussion is based around maybe Leon is a better fit as a 1b center behind someone like McDavid or Eichel. They are planning on their franchise center next year. This year is who will be a better fit to give a great 1-2 punch. Leon is giving all scouts a lot to talk about right now

Lol 1st and 2nd would be ummmm nicer. Honestly if we don't sign any top free agents we should be in the top 3 guaranteed. But I don't want 3rd! i want 1-2

Honestly we could trade are islanders pick if we end up getting first or second with are pick next year. We could add some already established top line players for a pick thats in the top 10 "if thats where nyi finishes".

None of those type of deals will happen until the day of the draft. Teams hold onto their picks until the guy the want gets taken. If that happens, you see them move their pick for something that can help them in some other way.

But finishing last doesn't guarantee a top 2 pick although its likely. I just don't think its a good idea to take on bad contracts to ensure last place. We will still be bad and we have the islanders pick. Why not add someone like evander kane to build aound.

As much as I want to have McDavid, seems kind of amateurish to draft this year based on being sure well be able to draft a superstar next year. We should draft this year with the idea that we might not get McDavid or Eichel. The question is, does that really change our pick?

Didn't Murray come out and say a few weeks ago that the GMs have agreed to change the lottery, but not until after next year?

If you finish dead last, you're guaranteed to pick either 1 or 2. You can't drop more than 1 spot.

I agree. And it shouldn't change the pick at all. We need a 1a and 1b center. We pretty much need help everywhere...
