At least let him spend a year in Rochester with Armia before we move him, he could be a great 2C/1-2RW
- Herzeleid

I wouldn't be opposed to it either way. It's hard to really say that I would be upset if they move him until I know what the return is. If we get peanuts in return, then I'd be a bit upset that they didn't at least give him a legit opportunity to prove why they drafted him when they did.

Although I like Campbell I don't want him here with his current contract. Florida makes a salary dump and gets a decent prospect while getting a young defenseman with huge upside. And that's all to move up one spot. That's a terrible trade for the Sabres and a terrific one for the Panthers. I really don't think it matters if they move up. They get a Sam guaranteed.

I certainly wouldn't do it. We pretty much give up a guy that we've put a lot of work into already to turn around and have to put a lot of time and energy into his "replacement." Seems silly to me. Especially because we have so many needs. If Ekblad is who they want and he gets taken at 2, then we fill a hole in the prospect pool of forwards by taking Reinhart/Bennett/Draisaitl.

**The Latest**

-Vancouver trades to #1, to select Reinhart.

-Buffalo takes Ekblad 2nd overall.

-Buffalo trades Ehrhoff & Hodgson to Col, for Ryan O'Riley.

I agree. I just don't see any benefits with moving up at all. The trade just does absolutely nothing good for this team in the long run or now.

Grigs in play with WPG, WSH and VAN
- Beezer33

Its funny this comes up, an hour ago I was just thinking of Grigs as the wild card in our rebuild. I'd prefer to keep him just for that factor.

I actually thought about that too. It'd be great if he turns out good. We need the help so this rebuild doesn't last too long. I say we keep him in the AHL for another two years and see where he is and then we can make a decision.

I hope they dont trade Compher, liking everything I hear about this guy
- Rally_Shots

Don't think they will
Many have Compher projected as a LW
Even if he is eventually a Center in the NHL, it's prob not a bad thing for these young kids to be brought along slowly

This is the plan right now. They aren't going to sacrifice development. They won't hold guys back when they're ready to make the jump, but they're not going to force them into the NHL roster just because either.

It's some nice background on these prospects

Agree, I cant see anyone giving us much worthwhile for him right now. Just end up with another Jamie Mcbain.

Right
I was more referring to once they get into the AHL/NHL
For example...
Girgensons starting as a winger before he was moved to center, where he'd have extra defensive responsibilities
Something many of us thought they should've done with Grigorenko

Actually, the last thing we need is to draft for a position of need.

We need the best player available. Period.

- bjm1717

Wrong we need to draft players that can score goals we don't need Ekblad, we need players that can score or set up players that can score. Drafting Ekblad is a mistake.

I agree with that as well. I think you might see a bit more of that. But you have to be careful with it too. Some guys don't respond well to being put into what they would consider a "lesser" role. In most cases, it's not an issue, but everyone's personality is different.

Center is the marquee position in the forward ranks. Someone may get mad that they were put into a supporting role at wing instead.

Agree...
We'd be selling low at this point
Giving him time in the AHL to see how he progresses can't hurt
Unless he totally sucks

Ekblad can set guys up to score.

I'm not saying that's who they should take, just simply pointing out he has that ability.

Defensemen can score and set up players as well
It's never a mistake to take the best available player
That's not what I think...
