The bonus is included in the figures I shared as from what I read, the signing bonus isn't part of the cap hit.

So CapFriendly is wrong? It shows $5m in year 1.

It's not. I believe Capfriendly is incorrectly splitting out signing bonus when calculating the savings between cap hit and salary, as the base salary and signing bonus count together when subtracting from the cap hit. They're not separate.

Example for next year:

Cap hit $6M
Base salary $2M
Signing bonus $2M
Subtract cap hit from total salary $2M
Buyout cost $1M
Total cap hit $3M
Cap savings $3M

I don't agree with that.

Explain as I've found no language to date that says signing bonus money is exempt from calculations.

pull up eakin and reiders fancy stats with and w/o okposo

night and day

It was bad early on as he was clearly rusty. He did look really bad. That said, I believe that I saw that his stats were actually good (relatively speaking to the rest of the team) over the last few games.

Should he play over mitts? Of course not. But after Mitts there isn't anyone knocking down the door.

They cover it well in the FAQ:

"Signing bonuses are paid to the player regardless of a buyout. Therefore, as explained in the buyout caphit formula above, signing bonuses are excluded in the equation when determining the total buyout cost, and are included in the AAV value when determining the remaining caphit.

Signing bonuses therefore decrease the buyout caphit savings. In the case of players with significant signing bonuses, such as David Clarkson, the remaining caphit decreases minimally. Due to this, Clarkson's contract has been referred to as a buyout-proof contract."

What about UPL? If Linus is out a while why not just give the reins to UPL and see what the kid is made of? Hutton blows as a #1, but I think he is a capable #2 who would be a fine mentor to a kid who would be playing 9 out of 10 games.

What if the kid is the next Hasek?

1. he is a vet the soccer czar is leaning on
2. the team stinks
3. he stinks
4. him, being on the ice is not a solution, he is a liability that is keeping a kid from getting playing time

casey or okposo

it's an easy choice for me

Usually don't care to much about that reasoning, but I think UPL is one I would wait a little on

Going with that being true as I can't find the language in the CBA, you're still saving $3M the season after next.

I'd rather do that than give up a very high pick to save the entire cap hit.

I'd either buy him out after this season, or just ride out the remaining 2 years of his contract and navigate the cap as if he's either playing or buried in the AHL.

Not the easiest thing to compute without the step by step process and caveats fully described.

I rely on the calculators...8f they are wrong, oh well.

Goalies are a tad different, this is fair. Just give jj a look. What’s the worst that happens, the Sabres lose another game?

Hearing #mnwild may be placing goalie Alex Stalock on waivers today. He's working way back from upper body issue. If he clears, he'd be eligible for Iowa or taxi squad.

20 wins last season, so obviously Wild will hope he clears. #sabres do need a goalie, so could be interest

This is official. We'll know Monday at 11 a.m. CT if Stalock is claimed or assigned to Iowa to get him playing. Surprised Wild didn't give him a rehab stint there first, but maybe they hope not playing since the bubble gets him to slide through

Brett Connolly has been put on waivers by the Florida Panthers.
Connolly logged a season-low 7:57 of ice time in Saturday's shootout loss to Carolina. He has one goal and two assists in 16 games this season. That's a far cry from the 19 markers and 33 points he generated over 69 games in 2019-20 during his first season with Florida. Connolly can be assigned to the taxi squad or to the minors if he clears.

I would like to see Johansson, see what we got, atleast maybe he turns into a trade chip, or a suitable backup.

CBA example doesn't cover it. Not a great answer, but since they don't cover it, it means it doesn't get any special treatment. Full payment, Full cap hit.
