You could make the argument that he's one of the least athletic pro athletes to achieve any success in modern pro sports. You could also argue he's the greatest athlete in team sports history, at least in the modern era and he's still going strong at 43 turning 44 before next season.

If he isn't a terminator model then he's something close to it. Whether he made a Faustian bargain or what have you, he's something all together different.

As a catcher out of high school I believe. Something like the 18th round. Baseball teams always draft guys who are likely to play football with late picks and hold out hope. Kyler Murray was drafted like 4th overall in baseball and committed to playing for the A's, signed his contract, got paid millions in bonus then pulled chute and went to the NFL, 1st overall pick.

Athletes gonna athlete regardless of the sport. Imagine if some of those baseball, basketball, football guys chose hockey instead. The caliber of athlete the NHL gets by comparison is quite poor

The NFL has guys who don't train for it that just go to a meet here or there and qualify for the US Olympic track team. The US Olympic teams have complained for years now that they lose a lot of their top athletes to NA pro sports.

NHL combine some top picks can't do a pull up. NFL combine guys bench 225 touching the chest with a record in the mid 40 reps. It's two very different calibers of athlete just a different skill set that many are never introduced to
