NJD having an off year with injuries and poor goaltending, you have to know that their 1st next year will be much later.

The return is definitely underwhelming especially since we're retaining.
The proposed trade scenarios by Trevor were for late 1st rounders THIS year and no salary retention....that was also what I was hoping for.

Or if retaining salary, getting a higher pick this year like New Jersey's 10th pick

Markstrom was ordinary over the last two seasons. This return is plenty fair given his contract, age, and recent performance.

Definitely wasn't ordinary. Was awful two seasons ago and was a top-three goalie in the league last year before they traded away all their defencemen and he got hurt and pouty.

That sounds like ordinary to me. In fact, at 5v5 he's statistically been almost exactly average among all goalies over the last two years.

Awful isn't ordinary. Top three in the league isn't ordinary. They'll likely get one or the other. He was also a Vezina finalist when the Flames were good. If Markstrom had been ordinary last year, the Flames would probably be drafting in the top three next week.

From your link he was 4th in high danger sv pct and the 3 ahead of him were not starters (all playing only 20ish games)

Last year he was 3rd in HD save percentage & expected goals. We would have been picking earlier than 9th if it wasnt for him last year & his play stopped the trade in March because he kept us too damn close to playoffs. Oh well, this should ensure we get another top 10 pick in 2025.

He was 30th in both save% and GSAA/60 out of the 61 most played goalies at 5v5 over the last two seasons. You can suss out strengths and weaknesses from every individual goalie, but those are two of the most cumulative stats with predictive value.

And Igor Shesterkin was similar to Markstrom in both those categories....are you sure you want to use that as the best to judge goalies?

Hopefully Conroys free agent signing won't be as bad as his trade record. I would have preferred Holtz as well.

It doesn't work that way. You can't add a bad year to a good year and decide he's ordinary. What about if you look at the last three years? He's really only had one ordinary year in his career and one bad year, and the bad year coincided exactly with his wife being pregnant. As soon as his kid was born, he went back to being one of the better goalies in the league.
