Yeah.

Just too many things can go wrong.

Also, the Caps #1 goalie is Charlie Lindgren, with no other veteran goalie in their system.

I mean, good on Lindgren - he had a pretty decent year in 2023/24, and will likely get a decent contract this summer, but that is another risk they are taking. Does he have it to it again? He had a few rough months mid-season and did not look that great in the playoffs.

Not that Kuemper was the answer either (based on his play).

I am not sure the Caps are even about winning at this point.

They're just trying to get ovi the record. PLD can feed him the puck. Darcy Dumpster can't

Yeah, just adds to the point Pat and I were taking about.

The Caps only care about getting Ovi the record.

Then they will rip it all down and start over... they have, actually, already started the process.

EDIT: $15M for PLD/Wilson until 2031.

I think they traded for him because they are desperate to find someone to help Ovi get the record, and this was perhaps what they believed as the best option out there available to them... I really don't think they give a poop about the longer term repercussions once the record is broken.
- Mashadar

He's only 25 and signed long term. Backstrom is dead and their prospects aren't great. Even if he tops out as a malcontented 50-60 point second liner, they have that going forward for the transition period.

Also the Habs should be in on Rutger McGoarty.

Rutger want to play in US only or just wants a top 6 role?

(frank) any rookie who imposes such conditions, you play where you're drafted or you stay home (or in Europe) ... enough pampering those primadonas.
Big Red Flag.

How can you make a fair league otherwise.

PS: If I was the Flyers, I would have told Cutter Gauthier to go (frank) himself ... you play here or you go home. When you become a UFA then you can decide, in the meantime we (GMs) decide, not you.

... someone pissed in my Corn Flakes this morning.

Giving in to these rookies is a recipe to destroy any competitiveness in the league ... who would want to support a team which has no means of attracting the best talent?

I get what you're saying, 100%. at least situations like the one with Cutter Gauthier are more of an exception, and instead of telling him to either play in PHI or (frank) off as you're suggesting they managed to make the best of it and got another decent prospect in return.

I don't know the full details, but to me it doesn't automatically mean Gauthier is a totally spoiled douche... I mean, maybe he is, but you have to go case by case.

I don't know the full details of the Gauthier situation either but a red line has to be drawn in the sand.

Those are the rules to play in the NHL ... before you become a UFA, teams own your ass and you do as you're told because you're just an employee (very well paid too). If you don't like that then you can (frank) off to go play elsewhere (ie. KHL).

When you get hired for a job in the real world, you don't immediately ask to get the executive suite on the top floor, you need to earn what you get.
