I think a large portion of the fanbase are expecting they draft a forward, they might not all freak out about it if it isn't the case but they're at least hoping they trade for help up front if they don't draft one.
- Pat1993

I think an issue Montreal can run into with drafting another high end dman prospect is that you already have guhle, reinbacher, Huston as your future 1-2-3 (Kid). So you get a guy who won't get as many minutes, and defensemen need more minutes to develop. On offense, Montreal has holes in the top 6. You are still getting a good forward at 5

because of kk, I know what can happen when you reach and draft by position, I said that many times

they can trade one of these defensemen for a forward if they want to

- deadpoulet

There's drafting a consensus 5-8 pick at 5 and then there is drafting a consensus 12-15 pick at 3

Same here, I'll trust them until they give me reasons not to.

It's their job, they have the resources (scouting) to make decisions ... if they mess it up, Molson will fire them and life will go on.

- Garfield512

yeah, let's not think about that for now, habs fans and media are often very quick to call for drastic measures, they're bound to make a mistake here and there but they've just started putting their brand on this team.

trades... it isn't that hard to get creative when you have an abundance of quality assets.

You have more control with your pick than what could be available at trade when you consider potential cost and how others value your assets

I'd argue that depends on a whole lot of things, if anything we know for certain that the draft can be a crapshoot, while trading for a young player who already has some NHL experience under his belt can be a bit easier when it comes to identifying their ceiling and potential development curve.

Well Chicago gave up on each that's why he was available (they are right, so far). Not often can you get a 3rd overall so soon. Maybe KK is available

If you are at 5 and the bpa is a damn, but the best lw is ranked 6th, it's fine. When you have the 3rd and you pick the best center who is ranked 15th you don't do it

5. Montreal Canadiens: Cayden Lindstrom, C, Medicine Hat Tigers

If the Ducks and Blue Jackets don’t take Lindstrom, I think Montreal or Utah will. I know they had dinner with Tij Iginla at the combine and there is some chatter about Sennecke going really high (I had one OHL source tell me there has been chatter as high as No. 3 about Sennecke), but those feel more like Plan Bs and Lindstrom feels like a perfect fit within the forward group they already have in Montreal. If he’s a center, the Canadiens have their 1-2 with him and Nick Suzuki. If he’s a winger, it’s not hard to imagine him playing alongside (and off of) the smarts of a Suzuki. In the unlikely event that both Lindstrom and Demidov are available, I do wonder if the winds are blowing in Demidov’s direction. And if they do surprise and go with a D, I’d guess that Buium makes the most sense logically.

Mailloux (RHD) is not chopped liver either ... he's big, he can skate and he can hit.

As you said, we definitively need help in our top 6 forwards ... that's why most fans think it would be logical to draft one this year. Who it will be remains a mystery, I just hope we pick one with some size.

But it doesn't stop there, development is also important (something Bergy never understood).

A lot of people thinking Habs may draft Koivu later on as well.
