If we landed a 1st for Jarry and was able to get rid of Smith's contract and not take any cap back in either deal. It would put us in great position for free agency.

Which obviously works out great for us, historically speaking.

Can someone summarize Rossis athletic article? I’d paste it to word if I was on my computer..

Belief the team is better with Jarry on the roster if they wanna get to the playoffs. Some uncertainty over Blomqvist being thrown in the mix at this time.

"Dubas would prefer to make a so-called hockey trade for Jarry, specifically to add either a potential top-six winger or top-four-caliber defenseman, team sources said. With limited projected cap space, Dubas views any big changes to the roster as most likely to come by way of trades, team sources said, instead of targeting bigger names in free agency, which begins Monday".

Talks with Smith occured at the deadline, but a deal wasn't made. It did lay groundwork for a trade this offseason.

Crosbys extension will get done.

They want to extend Pettersson this offseason.

They are happy with the Quinn hire and expect him to help Graves and Karlsson make big improvements this season.

They are targeting Beauvillier for the bottom six (he shares the same agent as Letang).

Not sure there’s a world we get the 4th overall pick for anyone on our roster period. Would CBJ have any amount of confidence at all they could build a winner around Crosby before he retires? Maybe they’d delude themselves into it because it’s Crosby.

I explained that I feel half a dozen times to the same person. The response is usually disappear for a few days rather then answer, then come back with the same unrealistic proposal and act like nobody can poke holes in it.

Beauvillier is interesting…

If we could get out of free agency with Beauvillier and Domi I’d consider that decently successful.

How many years after he retires will you still peddle Tatar to us?

How do we not have cap space. We have 10M left with 18 players signed. That doesn't include dirt cheap guys like St. Ivany, Puustinen, and Poulin who likely fill out most of the roster. Only RFA of note is POJ. They ought to be able to sign at least one pretty good player.

Nice to hear they are extending Pettersson. I am confused about what's so different between him and Guentzel though.

Beauvillier is ok, but do they need a third line LW when they already have DOC? Would like him better if he was a RW and they could play together, but I know DOC at least isn't as good as RW. Don't think he's a good fit.

We likely trade Smith and we need scoring depth either way even if it means Beau or DOC end up playing down the lineup

Regarding Peterson: he won’t command the level of massive contract Jake will and is younger

Assuming we trade Smith, we have a massive hole at top six LW. We also have a need at middle six RW, maybe somebody that can compete with Rackell for second line. And we should probably have a better plan than Eller is Sud or Malkin goes down, so someone with center flexibility.

Beau doesn't solve any of those issues, he just competes with DOC and might not even be an upgrade. I think we should use what cap space we have to target those holes instead.

The article talks about the team interested in Beauvillier to play his natural position of Center. He can also play all three forward spots. I think they see Domi as their LW option. I have this feeling even though it's not really out there except with our own inside source! I think they are hoping to upgrade Graves and Rakell which might be other spots they may be looking to upgrade.

Why would the son of Tie Domi consider signing with a Mike Sullivan team when he will have multiple offers on the table? Probably some contenders.

Wash. Gets mangiapane for a 2nd.. I like mangiapane but didn’t think it would work. We could’ve flipped him at the deadline.

I could see Dubas trying to make an entire new 3rd line with guys that can move all over so Beau fits that like Domi

Actually I didn't check it realize Beauvillier had that kind of position flexibility. My bad there, I'm ok with him then.

Here's a thought on pushing DOC and Eller down. If they push out PKers, they will need to add back PKers elsewhere. Just how Sully makes his lineup, he won't just have anyone do it.

Right now, they have two PKers in the third, 2 usually on the fourth, with Rust in reserve if one of them gets the penalty. That allows them to put a non PK guy on the fourth line to give it a little more offensive like Puustinen or Puljujarvi and scoring depth.

Unfortunately we wasted that spot on Harkins last year who didn't PK or score or really do anything. But he played hard!

It would be awesome to see him build a new 3rd line with Domi and Beau. I would be a bit bummed that we wouldn't be using some of our younger talent for the 4th. I do think Eller would do better with some limited minutes to keep him fresh and Accari being moved to winger which he historically played better would help this team.

I do wonder if we rebuild the 3rd line where Puustinen and DOC work in the plans of things. If we are expected to improve the team through trades it makes me wonder if they plan to move Puustinen and DOC plus other picks and prospects in order to land a top 6 winger.

It appears its finally Donning on yinz… finally Waddelling up to the best idea floated out there:

Elvis finally leaving Nationwide building along with Gudbranson and Olivier and there 4th overall (only if Iginla is still on the board) in exchange for Smith, Graves or Joseph, and Jarry.

You can play around with other players like Pickering and Laine…
flip some picks?? Give Waddell back some the gave up for Guentzel?

It leads to a 2nd line of Iginla centering both Yager and Malkin… the 3 center line – keeping the elders together – while building for the future on the fly... and keeping everyone entertained at the same time.

Everybody’s a happy camper. Go ahead... (without nitpicking) Prove me wrong.

Oh yea… Haha
