That would have sent the message of panic dude. Goaltending is about wins losses. Especially within the last few weeks. Also these desk jockeys saying Canada sucks were rich hockey kids growing up. America sucks just as bad. I can’t go to a gas station in bum (frank) western PA with 4 blue haired non binaries staring at their phone instead of ringing out my can of dip. At least Canada prefers Hockey over Football.

I know it sucks just as bad. Not only do I visit there often but I tend to follow all sides of the media down there so I can make more accurate evaluations of what is going on down there. However, just like up here there is a lot good and great things too. I honestly think both of our nations, like many other western countries, have gone off the rails a bit the last 5 to 10 years.

Solid variant on the old all of our bad players for all of their good players proposal: all of our bad players for a top 5 pick in the draft.
- Victoro311

Right, it's that time of the year again: trade all our bad players for something good Dubas, but this time don't turn around and use the cap space to sign a new bad player!

Isn't there a new'ish rule that agents can start talking to other team's UFAs like 72 hours before the 1st (opening of free agency)...or did I dream that?

If I didn't dream that then there's probably a lot of things already figured out behind the scenes.

I think they can talk to other teams a full week before July 1, though not sure if the draft being later than that this year has any impact.

I do wonder if we rebuild the 3rd line where Puustinen and DOC work in the plans of things. If we are expected to improve the team through trades it makes me wonder if they plan to move Puustinen and DOC plus other picks and prospects in order to land a top 6 winger.
- 123Kid

If we do want to rebuild the bottom six, we have to drop some contracts.

DOC, Eller, Puust, Accari, Puljujarvi already under contract and we have a pile of other players in the minors that could be ready to jump in.

Im surprised everyone is hot on Beauvillier. When he was with the Islanders and just traded to the Canucks, I thought he was going to turn into a really solid top 6 and wanted to get him but he really hasnt. I feel like I got ripped for proposing we trade for him. Either way, he would be a solid get for the bottom 6 but I will reserve optomisim on how much he would produce.

There’s actually zero clarity on this like most NHL things. There was a week long period before but supposedly it’s no more. Some say it’s a period that starts after the draft. Either way tampering happens 100%

Oh wow, a full week. I'd say there's quite a few guys already home shopping/apartment hunting in their new cities, if so hahah

Even when there was supposedly a talking period they weren’t supposed to talk contract specifics yet everyone would sign in the first hour

I would describe myself as more so lukewarm on the idea of bringing in Beauvillier. He was bounced around 3 teams last season and had a combined 5 goals and 17 points in 60 games. I thought he always looked pretty good vs the Pens when with the Islanders though.

Just wouldnt mind aiming a bit higher haha

Most years "a full week" and "after the draft" are close to the same thing. This year is odd, but yeah I'm sure everybody is negotiating already whatever the rule is.

When I lived in Australia over there the players in the Aussie rules and rugby leagues could not only talk to other teams -- but actually sign new contracts a full year before their current contracts ended. That meant that it was publicly known during most of the season that some players were leaving to join a rival club for the next year.

The Aussie way was too extreme, but it definitely makes sense to have a period of about a week where negotiating is allowed.

Ive always been operating under the impression that a Stamkos extension would just get done and there is no way he doesnt re-sign there, but hearing the GM say that they will announce a Hedman extension as soon as they are allowed to sign it while Stamkos is still sitting out there is maybe telling.

Obviously would be a great get for us but I can't imagine it happening.

He waited until June 29th to sign the last time around so it’s early for Stamkos still.

I mean, it would totally go against the wanting to get younger statements that Dubas has been saying...but I would bend that for Stammer haha

It was wild. Another cool thing though was you could loan players to other teams. E.g., the Melbourne Storm had an all-time great playing his final season my first year there, but also they had a superstar rookie who played the same position. To make sure the rookie developed and got playing time, they loaned him for one season to a crappy team who promised to start him. Then the next year when the all-time great guy retired, they brought the young guy back to be their starter. I really liked that option.

I'm with Matt in that I'm lukewarm. I think they need a flexible middle six forward and while he's not at the top of my list, he at least fulfills that role.

I've never been as big on Puustinen so bumping him and Puljujarvi into a battle for a fourth line spot is fine with me. I don't think having both in the starting lineup is a winning formula.

How willing is ownership to pay for 1 way deals for guys that end up in WBS?

They had a ton of those last year, so presumably not too bothered.

I just don't see how they can sign him.

Agree nice fit for us. But I'm not sure how we could make it work either or why he would sign here or why the Pens would add an even older player than Guentzel.

Gotcha so guys like Puustinen can easily end up on waivers. Wasn’t sure how much that forced guys on the roster.

They might, deep pockets newer owners that want to win. I don't think we have an issue though unless someone like Yager unexpectedly makes it as long as they go 23 man roster. Plus I believe Nieto will still be on LTIR to start.
