By having a team that is not a playoff team…how long do you think this strong culture they apparently have fostered will last? You want a long term, strong culture ? build a young, fast and skilled team that the players actually believe can win. - landros 2
That was not the question.
You suggested that it was desirable to build a "winning culture" and that the way to do it was by trading players that did not fit long term plans. I am merely asking about the logic of this claim. Because in and of itself, in the short run, with trades like that, you would be worse off. (If you trade TK for example (as I feel they should), you are not going to try and replicate his current production).
How exactly does that contribute to creating a winning culture? |

My thoughts would be, I would try to trade tk to Seattle for Shane wright and whatever else you could squeeze out of them like a second or 3 rd pick
I would package frost or Farabee, ( rather farabee) laughton and any 2rd pick hopefully a 3rd would be better to Ottawa for there 1st rd
So by end of next season you would have had 7 in total 1st rd picks in 3 years plus cap space , should really open up the possibilities after next year draft on the way to go |

Cbj is playing this well. Everyone knows the Flyers need to make a move. It might not go down until the Jackets are on the clock but it’s Danny’s best chance to get another legit cornerstone piece.
They can recoup picks by trading Laughton and TK. On top of that they still have Florida’s pick this year and Colorado’s next year. They can make this deal and still be in good shape. |

There’s a lot we don’t know….for one, who’s the roster player? What 1rst rounder from next year is it?
So if it’s
2024 #12, 2025 Col. 1rst and Farabee?
Ya I do it….knowing it’s a vast amount of assets to pay, but I think one of the 3 Russian kids in the top 5 have a chance to be special. I know I’m in the minority…but ya I do it.

The ask is #12, #32 and Colorado's first next year...so 3 first round picks.

Friedman on PHI/CBJ/#4 via 32 Thoughts: "Columbus wanted something big. The #12, the 32nd pick, and Colorado's 1st next year, and what I heard was that was too much for Philly. BUT, the two teams were expected to speak again, today, (Friday).
#12, #32 plus Colorado's first

I thought I did…but ok. I don’t think a long lasting strong culture can be achieved if losing continues. I thought this year was great as far as the foundation goes, but is it sustainable if they don’t get results? They need to add talent. To add talent you have to give to get.
It makes sense to me in that the time lines for other teams are different and the Flyers need to appreciate that when considering Konecny. So one step forward, two steps back…it’s not a fun process to rebuild
Question….you’ve played sports all your life, what was more fun and more memorable? The teams that won or the teams that didn’t….I’ve been on both, far to many times….and the ones I appreciate were the ones were successful. |

That’s way better than what was reported before where they wanted 12, a roster player, and the Flyers largely unprotected 1st next year.
12, 32 and say next years 22nd or later(conservative estimate based off how good Colorado is). That’s doable.
They can recoup a pick by moving Farabee after that. Plus whatever they decide with TK and Laughton. |

What would people give up for Askarov?
The tag will be high, but I’d wanna make an offer. We need a goalie. Askarov is young and highly talented. He’s shown success as back up, and Nashville is known for creating netmonsters over the past 20 years. |

I’m doing it….but I’m also trying to move Konecny, Laughton and Farabee to recoup some draft capital. I guess I want to see the full plan. If they do that they obviously think the guy at 4 is really good. |

I do the deal because if you believe you have a shot at elite talent, you take it.
Giving up #12 and #32, everyone hopes they get the one elite player that usually drops out of the top 7 in every draft. The reality is a team would do really well to draft a Farabee. A good top 6, nothing wrong with that except the player is not elite. Part of the transaction of pick #32 is the team also got a competent top 6 forward already who is now signed long term. COL's 1st is highly likely to be lower then #12. So back to the issue, hope is to draft an elite player, better chance to draft a Farabee, or as much a chance to draft an O' Brien.
Certainly, the draft is an imperfect process. My personal belief is Demidov would be elite. Get it done.
