Laine, Zegras, Necas, Kaliyev, and McGroarty all are younger players who were mentioned in trade rumors and could fit in with Dubas plans (some we don't have enough to acquire).

I'm surprised we didn't take a shot at Pierre-Luc Dubois. I feel like a Smith, Jarry + for Kaliyev and Dubois would have fit the get younger narrative.

Interested to see how Helenius turns out. He was the guy that was mocked to us most often until we relinquished the pick. His big knock is skating so I wasn’t overly enamored with him but people seem to think his stick skills are truly elite. Could come to regret it, or maybe he can’t skate at this level. We will see.

How can the Eklunds rumor chart have 1 team rumored to be in on a player but a 40% chance? Lol, where tf does he come up with this?

Eiserman would have been really interesting there. I know he fell but he could turn into a player.

Sounded like Dubas doesnt want to give out 6-8 year deals to guys his age. Dubas even said today that he's unlikely to give anyone a long term contract in free agency.

That kinda tells me they dont plan to just blow it up after Crosby/Malkin/Letang retire. Seems like they will do more of a retool on the fly, which can go really right or really wrong.

- SuperHenderson13

Dubas has like a 7 year deal, so he would still be around if a big contract goes sour at the end. In regards to Jake, so far he has played his hand perfectly. We picked up a bunch of assets and we still have a shot at signing Guentzel (without having to worry about an 8th year). There are also a LOT of options out there, for all we know Dubas has his sights set on Stamkos.

I think you are right that the challenge is to retool on the fly and stay competitive. Jake could be a part of that future, we will find out soon!

To me, it seems like a no brainer for us to offer up one of our 2nds and another pick next year for him, maybe even just our #1 next season for McGroaty. His development has gone as well as you would have wanted it to for a prospect drafted in the teens and he had a great season at Michigan. He doesn't have super wheels but he seems to have a Guentzel like quality where he is just an all around good playmaker who can finish and finds the right spots on the ice to score.

I think the only thing that will give teams reservation is that the reason he supposedly wants out is because he wants a spot on the NHL roster next season. He is a really good prospect, at least as good as Yager, but that doesn't mean he is ready for a full time role.

PLD is on his what? 4th team in just a short career. He doesn't seem like a character guy and Dubas doesn't really like those guys so not surprising he wasn't in on him.

I don't think the guy working at the Shanksville beer distributor is a reliable source for NHL news.

Judging by Dubas’ press meeting last night, we likely aren’t moving Jarry.

He thinks the amount of money tied up between Ned and Jarry is o.k., he is happy with all 5 goaltenders, and most importantly, he would rather have two goalies in the barn than chasing them on July 1

Could also be posturing, who knows. But moving that contract prob isn’t likely.

I mean it's probably a good thing to have two goalies. He knows what it's like not having really any and trying to make deals. He has a position of strength. He doesn't HAVE to move a goalie.

Right. The only GM openly says what's on his mind most of the time is Jim Rutherford. There's nobody else like him.

Can’t find any word on what’s going the other way or if there’s retention. Hayes is an albatross so I’m I’m assuming there’s something to this from an asset management standpoint

Friedman said it a few minutes ago, Wikipedia already has him as a Pen and a few rumor sites are saying it happened but no mention of what we are sending to the Blues

I only saw the Hayes to Pens tweets. I have no idea what the package is though. But I’m just confused what the point of Hayes is if you already have Eller as your 3C. Does STL retain salary and Eller is traded somewhere else? Kind of a weird trade with Dubas saying he wants to get “younger”

I mean, If we get rid of Graves? it has to be a cap exchange because this makes all of 0 sense. Younger and faster and you get Hayes?
