Caps traded an AHL tweener for a 2nd rounder, anything is possible. |

Top 6 D probably isn’t going to change, only hope is for positive regression from EK and Graves. Interested in how the forwards shake out / how many young WBS guys get a real shot. |

LOL...That 2nd rounder isn't till next year. That will be gone by then on another overaged soft stiff. Just think 10 mil for 1 dmen for another 3 years. LOL. Hayes will help the PP more than EK...HA HA..Penguins are a joke. Not only do they need an overhaul but a new coach/wanna be GM in sullivan. Another soft team year. - jb55

No doubt. If PLD and that contract can be traded anything is possible....

Just caught up on Marshall tweets, he’s creaming himself about Howe. Love it |

Ryan Wilson: Hayes deal highlights Penguins new reality
Hayes deal highlights Penguins new reality - Ryan_Wilson
New reality that you’re about to enter the dark ages for the next 15-20 years?? At least you got a bunch of cups cus I doubt you’ll see one again for a very long time. |

$3.6 mil for a 2025 2nd round pick and a guy who can eat up a roster spot for a year. Seems kinda pricey to me. I suppose this is what Pittsburgh can expect until that core retires. |

For as much as I dislike the Hayes move, I couldn't be more excited about Howe. Exactly the type of player we could use. Was Bedards linemate and grew up buddies with Yager.
It's going to take a few years but we are going to be talking about what a steal this pick was. |

Yeah lots of comparisons to Marchand and Gallagher. If he becomes anything close to that he will be a good draft pick |

I thought pens fans were upset there wasn't a reasonable bottom 6 depth? Doesn't Hayes address it? |

15-20 years? 1 year in the basement, then Gary Bettman gifts them 2 1st overall picks, 5 years cup. |

I think we are going heavy defensively because we don't have a lot of prospects that are defensemen. We have a bunch of forward prospects - 123Kid
We’re probably just going off our big board and the BPA at our picks happened to be defensemen. When your pipeline is this bare you shouldn’t be drafting for fit |

Problem is that they have a gaping hole in their top 6 and they spent $3.5 mil on yet another bottom 6 player they don’t need |

To some extent, though obviously not the best way to address that if your primary goal is to build as competitive a team as possible this coming season (his cap hit exceeds his likely utility). The Hayes move sends a clear message that the future is more important than the present, i.e. picking up a 2nd next year is worth the lost cap space in the next 2 seasons. |

I wouldn't be surprised if the Pens think Hayes can play 2nd line wing and contribute.
Unsure about the clear message though. I feel it's addressing two things, current need of a capable NHL player and getting assets for the future. I think we'll see though which direction is really present after July 1.

I would be surprised if that were the case. Hayes is old and bad.
People need to accept that this was a rebuild type move. Had nothing to do with improving the team. |

Whiny crybaby who sulks when he doesn't get his way. Was very happy when the Flyers got rid of him. |

Do we have any of those advanced stats of Hayes vs. Eller? |
|

This deal underscores the impossible nature of trading Graves. We got a 2nd (which i think is pretty good business for us) to take a guy making $3M something with 2 years left. Sure Graves has more potential to bounce back, but no one is taking him on without multiple assets attached.
I like the 2 2nd round picks and the trade today. Based on what Dubas has said l before, Im surprised we dont try to leverage our picks for more developed prospects.
I think people dont like the Hayes move because a) he doesnt address their lack of scoring b) Its another player well in his 30s.
to me, the most obvious low risk target for the Penguins is Jeff Skinner, but I doubt we'd be the only one calling for him. |

i dont know if he had any part in Cutter Gauthier choosing to leave, but if he did, I like him already. |
