It’s crazy to me that Ehlers is willing to waive his no trade but isn’t ready for an extension.

Isn’t willing to waive a no trade means he wants Buffalo?

On a side note, screw you Gerbe. This needs to be said.

Can we stop pretending people are plugged into anything yet? There hasn't been a reliable insider with Sabres information in many years. They run a tight ship over there.

Also it's hard for stuff to leak if you never do stuff to begin with.

I should be the Sabres insider. I told y'all Kevin Adams was a bad GM three years ago and that was true. I also said last off-season they wouldn't do anything and they didn't. Figured they would hire Lindy too. I said this off-season he would do nothing, almost completely right again.

Im never wrong.

Hmmmmmmm

Maybe intentionally running the franchise into the ground 10 years ago in order to draft a pissant ginger was not such a good idea?

Think he really is close to things, but KA can't close the deals.

Pretty obvious these were not his first choice of players.

It took Adams 2 years basically to trade for Byram.

He also has to trade for a top 6 forward and 3C

I think d is on the back burner

Also Ryan Johnson can play top 4

Maybe tossing the franchise keys to your wife, who has zero background in sports, let alone the NHL wasn’t such a good idea. Or maybe thinking you and your wife have more knowledge of the game than someone who’s been in it for decades and built winning teams. Or maybe setting your fan boy ego aside and hiring an experienced competent GM and spending money on your front office would be a better idea.

This entire decade plus of futility all stems back to Terry, full stop.

Fair enough, but when we had Eichel, Reinhart, etc and landed Hall, didn't we all cream our jeans because we were guaranteed to be awesome? Before that, when we had Eich, Rino, traded the farm for all these awesome established players, it was a guarantee we'd be good, right? Those approaches did not work. My point is, everything is a maybe.

Consider Adams comment yesterday about guys not wanting to be in Buffalo and he doesn't give a second thought. That's a supremely dumb thing to say, but I see it as a public way to send a message that Buffalo will no longer be a place where good FA players can get overpaid and not have to play hard, which definitely seems to be the perception (and has been discussed here many times).

You know, maybe last year if our power play was not a disaster we get in the playoffs...well I believe an actual NHL coach should help that. The year before, we scored a lot of goals, but maybe if our TEAM defense was better we woulda got in....well I believe adding a good fast defensive 4th line, finally, will help that (plus our very young D is now a year older).

Maybe is a part of sports. We were extremely young last year and the year before so we have more maybes than other teams, but what I keep telling myself is KA said he wants to build mainly by drafting and developing which is a new approach and, unfortunately, takes a lot of time. But ever since tanking for Eichel we have tried the other approaches, and failed miserably...I have the patience to give this approach a chance.

I'll repeat one thing: we now have a real NHL coach, which we have not had since the last time Lindy left Buffalo. I'm not the biggest Lindy fan in the world but God, he's guaranteed to be better than the garbage coaches we've had the last decade-plus, right?

- LandlordTom

The way to build a championship roster, or he'll, a playoff roster, is to mitigate the maybes and have as few maybes as possible.

The Sabres roster, as of right now, is littered with maybes.

Going to take a LOT of things going right for the roster as currently constructed to be a playoff team.

This would be though:

JJ Tage Tuch
Ehlers Cozens Quinn
Zucker Strome Benson
Malenstyn Lafferty Aube-Kubel

This is by trading the group Krebs, Joker and Greenway, our 2025 1st and someone like rosen or ostlund for Ehlers and Strome. Ehlers appears to be available, Strome is less clear, but probably available with the Capital cap issues.

- turbo044

The Capitals do not have cap issues at all.

Think he'd sign? Would need to be a big number. I think I might get scared at where the team is, adding a 21yo and expecting not to be a lottery team. You can't make conditions on those picks, they get em whether it's 32OA or 1OA. You hit a lotto pick in 2025 and it goes down as the worst offer sheet ever done.

Just a thought... nothing more nothing less. Being a little radical doesn't always turn out badly.
- Dannymik

As a poverty franchise, they should be open to every scenario, including your idea of sending an offer sheet to Byfield.

They need to stop being afraid of their own shadow when making moves, and cease and desist with the want to have the locker room be super close buddy-buddy.

Has it been stated that he will waive to come but wants to wait to sign an extension? If that’s the case adams sucks more than we thought. It’s your damn job to build a team to make him want to sign. Just do your damn job and it will work itself out.

That has been the story on this one. Adam’s doesn’t want to trade for him with out an extension in place.

It’s not like he can trade him at the deadline if he wants out…. Oh, wait… GMs can do that, I think?
