I think it's fair to be critical of yesterday.

I like Jensen as a player. I think he should bring some improvement to the blueline and a little experience never hurts. I don't mind a variation of Sanderson, Zub, Chabot, and Jensen as your top 4.

However, if the Chrychrun deal was always about landing a right-hand d-man, you really limit yourself with the number of teams you can deal with, therefore, diminishing the full value of the asset.

It's just too bad in this situation that this team can't sign a quality free agent and trade a guy for max value regardless of position or draft pick. Until this team starts winning and providing a first-class experience for players and their families, the Sens will always be a bit behind the 8-ball. This franchise is not yet a preferred destination for players.

Both Jensen and Perron had regressing years last years judging by a lot of the metics out there. They are signed for 2 more years and eating up 8 million dollars. Hard to not be a little skeptical but also understand the value of experience.

Amadio and Gregor are just your standard 4th liners. Hard to be overly critical, however, if Pinto is no longer a part of this team, Amadio is a severe downgrade. Brady also had a tricky time signing his deal out of RFA status, so maybe this is just another tough negotiation. However, I suspect another move or two is coming.

Yes your previous analysis of money out re: joseph, is very much a factor but they do have months to figure out how to be cap compliant... but your likely placing a good bet thinking he is the 1 to move

I heard on locked on sens, they quoted someone by saying Eliasson stick is a tool of destruction not a tool for creativity...lol. it kind of endeared him to me once i heard that. Plus he was impressed with Brady's 16 hit game. That was his post draft quote.

SO FAR who's going to score. They have 4 top 6 Fs. Stutzle can't finish and a liability with the puck. Perron could be washed up at age 36.That leaves Tkachuk, Giroux (36yr old), Batherson as proven goal scorers. They should be better on D but will have 2 rookies on defense (Kleven, Guenette) and they'll need about 30 games to adjust to NHL game.

I wonder if the Sens offered some RHD one year contracts yesterday to fill that 6 spot and they went with the 2 or 3 yr offers from other teams? Like Lankinpaa and Llbushkin.

If the Sens can get rid of Joseph and sign Pinto reasonably, I feel there are some quality deals to be made still?

any one heard what Pinto wants and what OTT is offering on his next deal? Seems a consensus from the fans that 5Mx6 years is fair.

Offense really isn't the problem for this team vs. being among the worst teams in the NHL in both GAA and PK%. Which is also why there's virtually no chance they start with two rookie D on the roster. You're obviously keen on Guenette, but Kleven is far more likely to be on the starting roster because it's physical play that they lack most, and they now only have 2 LHD under contract. Not to mention that given the clear emphasis that Staios has placed on veteran leadership, I don't know why anyone would think Hamonic is going anywhere. He's only got a $1.1M AAV for 1 year, and this is the same D-man that helped Sanderson as a rookie, plus he has history playing for Travis Green in VAN.

Think you've hit the nail on the head here - Staios for some reason got it into his head that JC was the trick to land the RD. Seriously... I am unsure why Chychrun wasn't floated everywhere and the best deal taken, because surely you could've gotten two seconds for a cost-controlled top 4 6'4 26yo dman. Nick Jensen is not a bad player, but he's way overpaid and he had *negative* value for the Caps. Proof: Caps already had 4 RD blue liners signed for 2M+, and then they added Roy at 5.75. They are currently 4.1M over the cap, and that accounts for Backstrom's LTIR. Point is, Wash is F'd and painted into a 'Dorion no-space corner': they ABSOLUTELY needed to move Jensen, and frankly they need to move more out still. Check capfriendly while you still can - Caps had zero bargaining power having signed players over cap, so to treat Jensen as an asset with value is patently ludicrous. A cursory look at Washington's Capfriendly would've shown this to Staios - you've got MacLellan over a barrel. Instead, somehow the Sens are the ones taking the hit. I don't mind the player swap from an on ice perspective, but vis a vis value assessment, you can't call this anything but exceptionally poor management.

Give it two days, and I bet a million dollars Sens could have traded for Jensen for nothing more than future considerations. That means we traded Chychrun for a third round pick. If you're telling me a third is all you could've gotten around the league for JC, you are quite simply wrong. Staios wanted to pull a day one grab when he absolutely could have waited and eked more assets out. Bad. Asset. Management.

Stuzle is a year removed from scoring 39. It's very premature to say he can't finish. As others have said, offense won't be this teams problem.

Having a goalie they can trust should improve the offense if anything.

Will Norris be ready to start the season. Him being on ltir to start for a month or two could make everything right. He probably needs it too.

Hamonic needs to go because he is now a pilon. Best before date ran out 2 years ago. Every d-man's metrics sucked when paired with Hamonic last season, plus he was sat down more times. His presence blocks the possible emergence or experience of a younger d-man, especially since he has no future in the organization beyond this season.

The Sens had no trouble scoring cheating in the DJ system but had a lot of trouble scoring in the Martin's 200' game.

This team is trying to win games, starting right from Game 1 in October. The chances of them trying to achieve that with two rookie D-men on the third pairing is virtually zero. They just cleared the path for Kleven to play the #3LHD role by releasing Brannstrom, so he's a virtual lock. They might make enough space to have Guenette start the year as the #7D, but I would bet strongly against them starting the year with two rookie D-men on the 3rd pairing.

So 3rd pairing is JBD or Hamonic + Kleven. Scary. I don't think if Guenette beats JBD and Hamonic again in this year's training camp he gets sent down same as last year.

This is exactly the 5/6 plan. Kleven has publicly gotten Staios' endorsement, so that's your third line LD. Not so sure Kleven is ready for the show, but believe he'll probably show better than either of his proposed RD partners. Hopefully Guénette takes the step up to play with TK, JBD gets offloaded for a 4th and Hamonic gets put to pasture as 7D. Alternatively we run 8D and 13F.
Funny how we now have 5RD and 3LD, yet LD remains the position of strength.

This would go against the teams mentality of a veteran presence and the value they clearly have in RHD.

Staios already said there will be no buyout and said Hamonic is staying. It’s only for 1 more season anyway.

Crazy how 2 seasons ago we were hoping he’d stay because of how well he played with Sanderson..and then last season it was like watching a different player altogether.

I think if the coaching staff reduce his minutes and have him focus on the pk rather than 5v5 he could be effective.

There’s a lot of hope going into this season lol

There’s still some intriguing names the Sens can take a flyer on:

POJ
Addison
Zadina
Roslovic
Alex Nylander? (Picked it up with the jackets)

Joseph to the Blues. It cost the Senators a 3rd in 2025 to get rid of the contract.

Another Jacques Martin addition by subtraction.

It’s unfortunate we need to give up any draft capital in this deal.

I guess now the team can focus on signing pinto.

Cap friendly only shows Backstrom on LTIR though. Doubt WSH makes this move without knowledge that Oshie is going to LTIR. And his 5.75 cap hit more than covers the current 4.1 cap hit overage.

Character matters.

Sometimes great performances are dependent on the role players being very good in their limited but specialized appearances.

It is brutally obvious that Staios and his management team have an agenda. We are going to need to see the full script to be able to understand what he is trying to do.

Right now, I am ready to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I get it. You are far better equipped to GM the Senators. Perhaps you should put all of your hockey management experience into a resume and send it to Andlauer along with your vision of where the Senators should go and how to get there.

We read reports last weekend that told us exactly who Staios wanted to move. All those guys are now gone including Joseph and JBD (soon to be gone).

Staios and his team are doing exactly what they signalled they would do.

They also signalled they wanted to add a goaltender and a RHD.

So, you either believe in this house cleaning or you don't.
