"Kind of unreal that the Sens hit the accelerator with DeBrincat + Chychrun (trading a 7th overall pick, a 12th overall pick, three 2nds, and a 3rd) and got nothing at all out of it except pennies on the dollar for flipping them again later on."

We read reports last weekend that told us exactly who Staios wanted to move. All those guys are now gone including Joseph and JBD (soon to be gone).

Staios and his team are doing exactly what they signalled they would do.

They also signalled they wanted to add a goaltender and a RHD.

So, you either believe in this house cleaning or you don't.

Maybe that’s the problem.

That every team knows who the Sens are trying to get rid of and they’re losing their bargaining power. Mixed in with this being Staios’ first rodeo as a rookie gm and it sort of feels like Ullmark was a lucky deal.

I’m trying not to be negative, but we got to call it how it is: Management is really going out of their way to get rid of all PD acquisitions. Staios is going to try and soften these blows, explaining there were no takers and these are mistakes he has to clean up.

Can they at least get Pinto signed???

Ullmark = Debrincat-Korpisalo+Kestelic.

I am more than happy with Staios, especially as it relates to his fixing this particular file.

Just looking at the teams that DIDN'T make the playoffs, how the heck will the Sens even compete for a playoff spot?

NJD - Hughes (x2), Nemec improving, adding Pesce + Mackstrom, Noesen
WSH - Adding Dubious, Mangiapane, Roy, Chychrun
BUF - Dahlin, Power, Byram growing

Don't forget Paul for Joseph where they needed to add a 3rd just to dump him. Then there is Stone for Brannstrom who they had to just let walk away. I could go on but it is just too nauseating to think on the massive incompetence of PD and where this team could have been if not for him.

I like the Ulmark deal and have always known that no one would pay much for Chychrun but as for the rest the proof will be in the pudding as they say. Personally I'm not a fan of Jensen as a top 4D or Perron as an improvement on depth but I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised. Still hoping for a little more.

I really liked the Yakemchuk pick which is who I was hoping they'd pick but I have no idea on the rest except for I always favour size and skating.

Wash and NJ did very well in the last couple of weeks to improve their teams.
Buffalo did nothing yesterday - less than the Sens.
Montreal did nothing, other than internal housekeeping.

It's beyond frustrating. I would've held on to Chychrun or eat some F***ing $. How many teams give more with JC retained $ and an extension. Don't know why other teams can make such great teams. I give it's harder in Ottawa vs FLA or TBL

Buffalo has 4 star players under 25

Rasmus Dahlin - 24 (entire season will be 24)
Bowen Byram - 23 (entire season will be 23)
Owen Power - 21

Ottawa has done excellent getting Stutzle and Sanderson but many many teams have star players or high draft picks now. You need depth and there's been way too many disappointments with their team the past 18-24 months. They need to get Norris healthy and running. They need to replace Brannstrom (not just JBD or Hamonic!). Also there's some holes again in the bottom 6 with Joseph, Kelly, and Kastelic gone (I like Amadio)

Eastern Conference

Locks to make playoffs - NYR, TOR, FLA, CAR, TBL
Very likely to make playoffs - BOS
---------------------------------------
most likely to compete for wildcards: WSH, NJD, DET, NYI

Will finish 10th-14th.

Bottom 2 - most likely MTL, PIT, or CBJ

I am curious if there will be any more "Jacques Martin" players moved.

I am also curious as to how the remaining cap space is allocated with Pinto to be signed and the remaining roster spots to be determined.

Hard to figure out what folks are upset about. Over a week ago Staios told us exactly who he wanted to get rid of. They are all now gone, except for JBD and we should probably assume he also gets moved one way or another.

Staios added a goaltender (his first priority).

He added a RHD (his second priority) and has impressed insiders with the addition.

He has created more than enough cap space to resign Pinto on a long term deal.

Can someone please explain why some folks remain upset.

Will this team improve on their 78 point season of last year. I believe yes.

apart from ullmark, his additions are not better than his substractions.

So now we've paid St Louis a 3rd rounder to take Joseph's 2 remaining years for future considerations. I really do fail to see how that was a net negative contract. Unless they need the space to sign Pinto to a too-lucrative long term deal, don't get it.

Staois did a real nice job with his shopping list-
Solid Starting G-Ullmark ✔️
Smart Vet RD-Jensen✔️
Vet F with grit/skill & youngish-Amadio✔️
Exp vet who can play & help drive culture-Perron ✔️
Big game hunting like this org has done before is exactly what this team didn’t need

Pinto signs for 2 years @ $3.75m.

Great signing. Still some money for another solid addition.

Well done!

Sens sign Pinto ..... 2 years $7.5 million ....... 3.75 AAV

Alright .... Sens fans can quit clenching their butts now.

Its been a pretty decent few weeks. But still some work to do.

As to those lamenting the loss of Joseph ..... and to a lesser degree Kelly and Kastelik. We were a bad team last year. These players were essentially in the bottom 6. The only time that we got decent play from Joseph was when he played on the top 2 lines. He had a decent first half of the year (when the team really sucked) and then his play fell off during the last half of the season when he was asked to play a more structured game (.... hmmmm, just like Chychrun). Ottawa is not going to miss ANY of these players. I wish them good luck on their new teams.

But Perron, Amadio, Gregor, Ostapchuk, Crookshank and Greig make a much much better bottom 6. And who knows, we may be able to do some more work once we eliminate JBD, Hamonic and Forsberg (a further $4.7 million in cuts).

Quickly but systematically sweeping away the dust and stench/bad contracts of the previous regime. Place is smelling a bit cleaner and fresher these days.

After all that, Pinto re-signs for 3.75.

Good deal, but I think they'll wish they'd gotten him for longer even if it cost more. Maybe Pinto refused.

if he progresses could end up costing OTT 7-8M in 2 years. If he turns into Colin White OTT will be ok in 2 years

Pinto QO in 2 years is 5M

One thing I am confident about is he will not be another Colin White (or colin Greening!)

3.6 M in cap space still. ONe more deal coming? or will they move up Kleven and stand pat?

I would have been okay if they had signed him to $5m x 5.

I believe Pinto has the potential to be an elite 2nd line centre. His on ice awareness and anticipation is outstanding for a young player.

Agreed on Pinto's potential. He just seems to keep developing. Takes some of the sting out of losing Norris, who will likely never play center again, if he can get his career back on track.

I'd guess he refused any such deal like 5x5 and preferred to bet on himself (heh).
