POJ was 1 year 950k? Did the coaching staff have an issue with him or something?
I’m a firm believer Dubas pooped the bed by not getting the Joseph brothers on the team |

Just a random thought... Considering the direction of things. Could Petts get moved? If you don't want to give him a long term deal, now is the time. - madmike71
Makes sense to me with their direction. Fortunately reports seem to indicate they want to extend him instead. |

Sully never seemed to like him. Any mistake he made usually ended with him getting scratched. |

It would nice if they fired Sullivan and the team became better. There have been too many players leave here and play better for their new team. I am going to be disappointed if POJ is that next example and becomes a solid top 4 LHD. |

Young players don't have much slack on their leash with Sully....meanwhile 33, 36 and 39 year olds could cough it up and get buried in their own zone over and over and never ride the pine.
The paradox of this, to me anyway, is that Sully seems to really get a lot of good out of young guys if they have to be in the lineup haha. So, I'm glad the roster really is getting younger. Last season they went on a little run when there was more young guys getting regular shifts.

I think this happens around the league a lot more than just with Pens/Sully. Different systems/coaches, different teammates, further development, etc |

What's sullivan done lately to keep him? Word was they offered 1st round picks for sully? Not sure if it's true? He's only here because he's from boston. If this was true though about 1st round picks then dubas and the owners should be questioned? I feel as though dubas is doing everything he can for sully to leave especially with the choices dubas made with free agents recently. BUT then again these players fit sully's style of game. Soft and fluffy with zero toughness. Sully's speed crap left after the last cup they won. When was that again? Move on from sully already and get some fresh faces with new ideas on how to adjust to games and let the young players play already. The only thing left to rebuild or retool they haven't tried was hiring a new coach. - jb55
Nobody offered a 1st for Sully. He is a bad coach and I think the only reason he is here is because he has a long contract, the org is too cheap to pay him out and him being a poopty coach helps them in their approach to rebuild. |

Sid also likes playing for Sully. So given our main goals this year are to re-sign Sid and to rebuild, making a coaching change makes no sense now. |

I think he's a good coach that has perhaps gone stale with the Pens. I think most teams would want him if he became available.

Absolutely, he would he highly sought after. Fans opinions and organization/NHL people's opinions are incredibly different on just about every aspect of hockey lol

I think Taresenko was waiting out for Florida to get that cap issues straight but with the Lundell signing, i don’t think they are an option anymore. Because of this, I think Vladdy will be wearing a pens sweater if the rumors are true. |

So it's a retool or a rebuild? It looks like both to me? Where did you see sid likes sully? Sid likes mackinnon also but I don't see sid heading out there? I believe sid likes mario more than sully, maybe that's why he's sticking around. - jb55
It's definitely a rebuild. Dubas hasn't said the exact word but everything else he's said is of the rebuild nature. Acquire bad contracts with picks, don't trade draft picks, bargain bin shopping for short term deals, it's a rebuild. He's just trying to rebuild without bottoming out. He's going to give Sid and Geno competitive players while acquiring assets and picks.

I would imagine there's more teams than the Pens interested in him, as well....

It has been reported many places (by Yohe, etc) for the past few years that Sid wants them to keep Sully and prefers to play for him and doesn't want a coaching change. Also everybody close to the team reports that Sid doesn't want to leave, he wants to stay with the Pens. |

He can't understand how either of those things could be possible, man. Just makes no sense in his brain. Might as well tell this sh!t to a wall over and over. |

Yohe reported yesterday that other teams have made higher offers than the Pens and that the Pens don't expect to get him but they're trying. |

It's crazy what the lightning have done so far..Letting there captain stamkos walk goetting rid sergechevs 8.5 mil contract and then signed guentzel and the players a that a real GM brought back to win now..I highly doubt utah would want that ridiulous EK deal that's for sure.
Lighning
predators
blues
Are the 3 teams that improved.. In that order. - jb55
How are the lightning or blues improved? |

They weren't aftraid to shed salary to improve there teams..As opposed to the penguins. What did the penguins do for a rebuild? Shed salary? No..Improve the team? No Way..Get players they need? Nope Get a new coach? Nope Dubas did bring in EK at 10 mil for the next 3 years to improve the PP..How'd that work? And a team on a rebuild now. - jb55
How are the Lightning and Blues improved was the question. You didn't answer that at all and then asked questions. |

Ok, so I'll preface this with knowing that it is a near impossibility and goes against what Dubas was saying about collecting futures, but I'm wondering what we would have to offer prospect/pick wise to make a trade with Anaheim to help them get to the cap floor and give us a little cap relief:
ANA: Vatrano & Gibson
Pit: Jarry, Graves, Eller, ++?? |

So Bombouli was on Starkey's show this morning having a discussion about the Pens. Talked about the historic tragedy of the PP last year. Rehashed how f'n brutal they were and Sully should have resigned in shame with those numbers. Would have easily made the playoffs with an average PP. (we've all known this)
Numbers cited today...
They were a full 5% lower than the '83 team that was tanking for Mario.
The team was 6th in the NHL GF% 5v5. Fell to 19th in all situations.
I know this is beating a dead horse, but how does a coach keep his job after that? At the very least, why wasn't there a dramatic shift in strategy mid-season? They just sat back and let it happen. |
