Bill Meltzer: Quick Hits: Team Briere and Team Jones, Dev Camp - bmeltzer
What's the deal with Arthur Smith? Was a somewhat highly though of goalie a few years back. Vegas was interested in drafting him though clearly didn't happen.
Santeri Sulku how has he looked Bill? Is there anything at all there?
EDIT: it is an absolute disgrace Sawyer Boulton is there and signed a contract with LHV. Talk about nepotism and favors. He is a terrible hockey player for this level. Has never dominated or even produced going back to his youth hockey days. Can think of dozens who would be better than this kid who earned a chance.

Sulku missed a whole season due to injury/off ice issues. Not expecting much. |

One day, maybe. We will see accountability to the men who treat this organization like a play thing to maintain some bastardized view of outdated philosophies.
Franchise equivalent to a divorced 50year old man ripping down the street in a 2000 mustang convertible.

Aw cute team names. Tell me again these guys were hired for their hockey minds and not name recognition. |

Any thoughts on wasting a AHL contract on Boulton? How can that singing be remotely justified is comical to me. |

If they miss the playoffs again, do any bells go off to the peeps higher up than "Hilf"?
The first 3 would have set them up nicely in theory. They could have still had Jett as well imo.

What I would like to know is what Comcast thinks is gonna happen when these boomer fans start aging out of going to games. I’m pushing 40 and can’t fathom spending money on this franchise.
Who comes in after Briere and Jones get the boot? Simmonds and Giroux? Yeah, not supporting that either. |

Wayne Simmonds always seemed like a pretty bright guy. Claude, not so much. What is Simmonds doing these days? |

They will change then, possibly earlier, as any business would. Why do you think they wouldn't?
Also, I am stupefied you are "pushing 40." The gravitas of your online persona had made me think you are pushing 60.

Last I heard he signed a one day deal and retired a Flyer so they’ve probably already got some job in mind for him lol |

Well many years of skateboarding has left my knees feeling like they’re in their 60s if that counts. This franchise just ages fans like milk. |

No. The only thing Comcast cares about is the bottom line. As long as they are in the black. Although national spotlight, playoff games, do tend to help with profits. This is what’s wrong with having a huge corporation owning a team. The teams where there are people owning it, tend to have a massive ego and a love for the game that translates in to a desire for success and bragging rights. |

The flyers defenders will say it's only an AHL contract. |

Sorry I didn’t think of that. I’ve got nothing to do today, the wife’s at work, and it’s too hot to do anything outside. Maybe if their hottest prospect wasn’t Jett Luchanko it might have occurred to me? What’s the crowd like? Any fans there? |

It's a new era of Black and Orange! Really though, it's the same old same old with just new people. But hey, according to Hilferty, it's beautiful to see how they work together.

I agree with that from Comcast's perspective. Let's not forget though that Comcast gives the Flyers every resource they need to build a great NHL franchise. Sadly, they have been failing for over a decade. With no indication that anything is going to change.

Saw this on Jordan Halls piece and had to laugh at the part that said Torts is tough but fair.
"When I told Torts, he was really excited," Briere said. "And that's one of the things that I'm most excited about, too — the chance for Matvei to learn from a coach like Torts. I know he's going to coach him the right way, just like he does everybody else. He's going to be tough on him, he's going to be fair and he's going to teach him the right way." |

It's scary, it really is. Hopefully, Tortorella is gone before he does too much damage.
