So, training camp is commencing and yet we have nothing from you Shelley. What is the deal.

There are (9) days until the first preseason game and training is in session yet we the readers still have to provide the content for this stale blog.

Islanders are a tough team to blog about. Just not a lot of excitement and normally not a lot of new players to write about.

Here's your blog in tweet form:

Lou says Sorokin did suffer an offseason injury but he is skating now. Lou says it’s not clear whether he’ll be ready for starting camp but no concerns now he’ll miss time to start season. Upper body issue.

Matt Martin will attend #Isles camp on a PTO, per Lou. Clutterbuck will not return.

My takes:

An upper body injury isn't nearly as scary as it sounded when it was this cryptic battling "something" that Friedman originally reported. I immediately thought hips or knees, or something that could pose a longer-term problem and perhaps explain the less-than-dominant play we saw from Sorokin late last season relative to what we had gotten used to.

On Martin, I love what did for the organization and love that he still wants to be involved, but I'd rather see the Isles move on. But there's really no harm in bringing him in on a PTO even if it's just to force other players to take the role from him. If I had to choose between Martin or Clutterbuck on a PTO, though, I'd choose Clutterbuck, who can still pop in a few goals with that wrist shot and is just all around more effective.

Both Martin and Clutterbuck were awesome Islanders and excelled at a role that was far greater than just the sum of their abilities...and they did so even after most of us thought they were washed up. But, both should be replaceable at this stage of their careers. It's a bigger problem if other players can't outplay Martin at camp for a fourth-line spot.

My guess is that Clutterbuck is confident he can get a bonafide contract elsewhere and I would probably agree with that. He's still serviceable and, if he's willing to accept a potential 13th forward role, a few teams could be after him.

I would hope, and think, that Martin doesn't get a deal. I don't really see the point.

Yep, agreed on Clutterbuck. Someone will have a hole to fill at the bottom of their forward roster and he'd be a good option for that.

Agree on Martin as well. The forwards fighting for roster spots better be able to out-compete him and it's probably best that they do.

Haven't been on here in a while. Does not look I missed much. Anyway, was wondering, does anyone know what the cap ramifications would be if the Islanders sent Engvall to AHL?

That's really chiefs' department, but I think they save about $1 million off the cap.

The real question is how much do they save, if they ship his azz someplace else.

More importantly, we would be saved from having to watch him play.

I could see Clutterbuck signing with the leafs. He still can add to any team looking for grit and a few G’s. Plus I think he played juniors with Tavares?
