[quote=J35Bacher]Tried to do a honest PRO's and CON's for resigning Konecny.
PRO's
- Win more games most likely putting flyers solidly placed in nomansland
CON's
- Another albatross anchor ⚓️ aka Couturier
Nice analysis 👍 |

Do you count the Panthers or were they just bad? From 2010-2014 they had 3rd overall, 3rd overall, 1st overall, 2nd overall picks.

Absolutely.
Flyers are going to follow the Vegas model, without the expansion draft or hope to catch lightning in a bottle for one season like St. Louis. What could go wrong. |

If anyone thinks the Vegas model can be recreated they belong in a rubber room. That expansion draft made everyone not in Vegas look foolish and ruined it for the expansion teams that followed them. Many of the GMs should've given back their salary as the teams would've been better off with no gm that draft.
It's like the Herschel Walker trade in the NFL except with multiple teams chipping in. Nobody has ever been that dumb since.

There is no rebuild until they can land a couple top 3 picks in the draft....within a 5 year period...not 35. |

I think they were just bad and finally got a GM that knew what they were doing

I don’t think it matters where the picks land as much as you have to make an effort to get them, which this organization is not. |

simple yes or no question for you. Has the flyers way to build a contender/cup champion worked? |
|
|
|
They are in a rebuld; hence, hurting their playoff chances at the deadline last season to pick up an extra first round pick, and stockpiling a total of six picks (two their own, four from other orgs) for the 2025 Draft. Whether it's the rebuild effort you'd want doesn't make it a "false narrative".
Want to say that it's a halfway effort ala the Hextall years (trading Schenn, for example, but keeping Giroux, Voracek and Simmond through their primes)? That's fair.
To say it's not a rebuild at all? That's not true. - bmeltzer
So is one supposed to ignore the fact they wanted to extend Walker? |

Lol, yup. I don’t see Ersson or Fedotov playing like Patrick Roy for 3-4 months and carrying this team to a Cup. Plus St Louis also had a legit 1D which is something the Flyers haven’t had for over a decade.
But have no fear, with Scotty L still here and Hathaway and Seeler extended, the much revered Lockerroom Culture Cup will be ours again! |

They did not try particularly hard to extend him. Explored it as a possibility, weren't in the ballpark, and explored trade options instead. |

On #1 centers league-wide:
https://thehockeynews.com...er-for-the-2024-25-season - Quetzalcoatl
Discussed to death that you really need that #1 center and #1 d that you normally only get in the top 5 picks.
Ovechkin's shadow looms so large that people forget that his center for the cup year was #4 overall pick, Backstrom. Averaged 56 assists a year over a 6 year period feeding OV.
If they did this same article about #1 D, the Flyers would be in the same position even though Briere believes the Flyers have a great many "similar" high end prospects.

I look at it this way….to them it’s a coin phrase. “A rebuilding team”. It buys them time….something a new regime needs when they inherit this crap. In the true sense of what they are doing, it’s not a rebuild where by they tore it down to the studs. They had some pieces to start with that fit the profile of what a rebuilding team should start to have.
The issue is the new GM is not willing to, or incapable of, moving out guys that obviously don’t fit a time line. You do not re up a guy like Seeler, you do not re up a guy like Hathaway, you do not hold onto a guy like Laughton or attempt to re-sign a 2nd line talent to a rich contract just because he’s your best player. How much character over talent guys does a team need? Yes Briere has accumulated a bunch of draft capital in next years draft, (none near the top 5, but a lot of decent picks) but that surely can’t be his only plan? After watching Briere have a very underwhelming draft week, to say the least, and follow it up with nothing I’m not holding my breath that he can hit a home run next draft. Will I hope the Flyers suck again this year just to watch him reach again in the 1rst round next year? No I won’t.

By even exploring it…it really shows what they are actually trying to do. |

You don't explore doing something you have no intention of doing. A team that is truly rebuilding, doesn't explore it. They inform the player that they're going to trade him for future assets.

It’s a rebuild - the three headed monsters have said so. I don’t care what you and others think they are doing. I mean they gave up a chance for the playoffs by trading one guy!!!! |

They are going to throw huge money at a FA 1C and a FA 1D when the time comes. That is their plan IMO. Both will be in their late 20's early 30's and have albatross contracts down the line artificially shortening the window.
