Haha I was gonna say man - maybe one of the worst FA overpays of the season eh! Ha.
But there is a hole for sure in the middle (3C). I know it was just rumours and not gonna happen but the folks posting a Vegas/mitchy thing was wishful thinking (Karlsson/Dman) - Big23Questions
For as much as the Core 4 screw up the Cap, I think Tree did well with the D and G situations.
If you can get Lily's $3M and Robertson's $1-2M and a few other scraps off the 50 player list, they might be able to eek out $7m for a 3C and 3LW. Those are the clear spots that need to be filled with proven players.
I say proven cuz I don't think the McMann/Holmberg/Minten/Cowen types fit the bill.

Wishful thinking for Vegas fans.
Mitch is going nowhere.
Cope. - Horsey Sauce
I think it’s wishful thinking for both fans. It helps Vegas add a real good offensive talent that makes their team better - and they have players that have grit and intensity so they can afford mitchy. Leafs get a more rounded roster composition and improves their team in that regard.
It’s comments like: Cope - that make folks irritated. What do you mean cope? Whether he moves or doesn’t it won’t add or subtract from my life at all. I’m not sore what you mean by cope? That gives me the impression that you take mitchy way too serious and have a fanboy (boy band/swifties type stuff) with mitchy.
Also, I agree he will remain in Toronto this season - play well put up points in regular season, then do his magician disappearing act again come playoffs when things get tighter and more physical. It looks like he will leave and leafs will get nothing but cap space for him. Hopefully the players they need will be available on UFA they will want to sign in Toronto next offseason.

Not a fan at all with the tendy situation - but the dcore looks better for sure. Forward group lost Bert and like him or not he’s better than an ahl guy coming into the lineup right.
It’s a long season though and alit can happen so o wouldn’t be doom and gloom you know. Best case scenario in my opinion:
Mitchy sputters a bit in October/early november - media fans (in rink) get on him - pressure mounts - him and his greedy agent both realize they need to move away from the pressure (we have seen mitchy hates pressure) and out up points ti get paid next contract and agreed to move.

Probably the only scenario I see for MM other than walking for nothing.
I don't "hate" the goalie situation. I don't trust Woll's health or talent yet but I do think Stolarz will surprise. And, with a healthy Murray in the AHL, it's probably as good as it gets with our Cap situation.
Bottom 6 is my biggest concern.
Feel really good with the new coach. I think that change will be the biggest difference in the GAF factor of some of these man purse wussies.

Can understand why Tree is hesitant to move Mitch, especially after the Matt Tkachuk trade, but he can't let him walk for nothing and the Leafs can't afford to re-sign him..

I think a trade, is the only real option - PatC80
Or he’ll simply do what Sundin did to the leafs and say no to getting traded and leave for nothing. It’s Mitch’s call.
Makes sense to. Why would Sundin accept a trade to a team he plans to sign with? To lessen their assets? Same with Mitch, unless he feels the team he’s willing to get traded to is a cup contender this year why drain them of assets when he can simply sign with them in the off-season?

That would make Mitch even more disliked in the Toronto market.. Also, I hope he doesn't do that.

Sundin did it and he still got his number put up into the rafters in Toronto.
Also, if they ask him to get traded and he says no it’s not like management will let that become public information. It won’t even get mentioned until he signs elsewhere on July 1 2025.

Mitch hasn't reached Mats level yet.. Mats was loved unconditionally by all while he was a Leaf.. Same can't be said for Mitch

Sit the little twat in the press box 🖕🏻 - .HOHO.
They won’t be placing an $11 million dollar guy in the press box.
What is happening is nothing new for a league with a hard cap, and sitting him only means the leafs are only giving themselves $77mill in an $88mill cap. The leafs gave him the deal, and only a loser turns their back on the deal that they signed.

You're right.
On top of that the player just says, "You're paying me 11 sheets to eat popcorn? lol ok"
It's not like other GMs aren't going to pay him come free agency because he was benched.

Marner can go...
(okay, a bit harsh... but his probable contract demands can definitely go there) - mjones242
His contract is a place like Vegas would only need to be about $9.25mill in Vegas to bring home $5.8mill whereas in Toronto it would need to be around $12.5mill.
Nobody down in the states will offer anything significant for him this year. So the leafs are better off holding onto him for this season and then using the cap space to grab a couple 50-60P forwards at around $5-6mill each. Marner has a lot of talent but his obvious lack of physicality in his game means I won’t miss him, I would prefer a couple Bertuzzi like guys.
