Ok..he has had chances to trade Laughton, and chooses not to. I am sure he has recieved offers for TK, and doesn't move him.
The problem I have with Briere and Co right now is that they are not cleaning old messes, and preventing new ones. They are making mistake after mistake, and compounding the mistakes with lame excuses. Have we ever seen multiple prospects in one calender year want out of the organization?
Having Michkov is nice, but Torts isn't the right coach for this. Keeping him as HC after last year is another huge mistake.
They aren't learning from past mistakes, and to expect Michkov, as a rookie to be the savior right now is a bit much. He doesn't even have anyone to play with who can keep up with him.
The Flyers have been a joke since the cap kicked in. Even Anaheim has abetter record than Philly since the cap kicked in:
- TheFreak
What was the return offered in the Trade talks for Laughton? Saying he had a chance is great but did you want him to trade him for any offer? And don't bring up the rumor of the 1st for him from the Blues. That has never be cooperated.
Smart of him not to move TK before the trade deadline. He will get much better offers at the deadline. This of course if he is going to move him.
Old mess Hayes not on the team
Old mess TDA not on the team
ND will ride the pine which is perfect and most likely a buy out candidate after this season.
At least 13 million will be available after this season to sign players and 12 more after the 25 season.
I am looking at the positives, too many people are just negative. |

22 seasons.
1 cup
10 seasons of missed playoffs
The last 9 seasons of coaching he has finished 5th, 8th, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 4th, 7th, 7th, and 6th in his division.

Ok and out of the 22 seasons how many teams where playoff teams before he got there.
How many teams were successful before he showed up |

Top 4 in losses for a coach. Don't let longevity records fool you. Few have been better at selling average over his coaching career than Torts. Must be all the press coverage he gets.
Edit : Reminds me of Jeff Fisher, a head coach in the NFL. He had a good relationship with the media so he got the benefit of the doubt in every article. Narrative of good coach and nothing was ever really his fault. What finally got him canned? He was 1 game from the all-time loss record and despite standing by him for 5 losing seasons, the owner did not want to be in the record books. Everyone else who stood by his mediocre record also stopped supporting him at that point as nobody wanted to be in the record books. - Flyers_01

Better way to margin his coaching is, how much has a team improve with him there.

Very strong reply. But he has a cup. That's more then our last 2 head coaches .
He also coached the bluejackets to its most successful postseason in there history - SlNlSTER
For the Bluejackets thats' very very low bar. They only made it to the 2nd round and this was behind their 2 time vezina winning, stanley cup winning goalie posting a .925% in the playoffs, let's give Bob some of the credit. People were bashing Bob's vezina's because of the BJs poor playoff record but Torts get's credit?
Torts get's credit for a cup 20 years ago but Michkov wasn't even born when that happened. Is it a lifetime pass? There was no salary cap, the lockout hadn't happened, the game has significantly changed.
I'm not defending any coaches that Fletch hired. Past or present. |

Yes, move Laughton for best return possible, whatever that is.
TK would not get the best return at the trade deadline. It was this offseason. But this doesn’t matter because they’re resigning him.
How did Hayes become a mess when halfway through the season he was the teams leading scorer and all star? I agree moving him was the correct decision but it didn’t have to be so acrimonious.
Buyout ND? Enough with the buyouts. Live with your mistakes and ride it out. Too many vets getting special treatment it’s become a joke.
The Flyers won’t ever bank cap space. It is part of AI GM DB’s job requirement to spend to the cap every season.
Just a realistic look at the team, nothing more. |

If possible the flyers should always be as close to the cap as possible and allowing wiggle room if an emergency happens.
That doesn’t mean that goes to players salary.
I’m saying that the flyers should acquire picks or prospects by eating other teams salary issues that are short term. |

ND. I hope so but don't forget Michkov's press was all about ND. ND hype video, ND's your new best friends, etc. Doesn't sound like a guy on the way out.
Salary Cap : That doesn't include Konecny's new 8 yr deal, Foerster, Cates, Frost, York. All are going to need significant raises unless you are replacing them with rookie contracts from the AHL ( ). Just kidding, Briere pretty much admits the pipeline is busted. |

The Athletic: NHL Contract Efficiency Rankings 2024
25. Philadelphia Flyers
Last season: 24th
The Flyers have three great-looking deals on prime-aged players, the problem is they all expire next year. Travis Konecny, Morgan Frost and Cam York are all playing roughly $3 million under their worth and while that gives great value for next year, their next contracts will dictate where the Flyers land next season. They could all sign perfect deals like Owen Tippett’s or Joel Farabee’s, get good value like Nick Seeler’s or slightly overpay like Travis Sanheim’s.
Across the board, there isn’t much to complain about aside from a heap of dead money on the books over the next two years. That does drag the Flyers down, but Philadelphia’s biggest problem contract is one any knowledgeable person would’ve given out at the time. Sean Couturier landed on our worst contracts list as a result of injuries derailing his value, and it’s his deal that brings the Flyers down to 25th. They wouldn’t be an above-average team regardless, but they wouldn’t be this low either.

what has more value, having TK for 2 playoff runs or 1 playoff run?
Can you tell me the last time the flyers sold high on a player?
all that cap space you mention some will be eaten up by internal contracts. which I am sure they wll overpay.
realism and negativity are 2 diff things. |

I was genuinely optimistic after last offseason when it appeared the new management was sincere about rebuilding and was making activate steps to do so. I’m less positive this year seeing that they haven’t traded Laughton, re-signed Hathaway and DB is making comments about Nik Deslaurier being a guy who can help MM (ruh roh). I’m getting that sinking feeling this is still an organization spinning its wheels in the mud while thinking they’re actually moving. |

damn didnt even see that column...
seeler as a 4 million guy and sanheim only 900k better? that don't seem correct. can't see any team offering seeler that in any way

It's an analytical snapshot in time. Seeler is coming off a pretty great year by the numbers:
Numbers that are pretty close to Sean Walker's who just got near $4M AAV.
Now for sure Seeler isn't gonna maintain that level... and probably neither will Walker. But as of now Seels is "underpaid".
In Cates' case I'm guessing his defensive contributions are really doing the heavy lifting on his model value. |

he did have a good year. thing is the way he plays it will take a toll. said before 1 thing in his favor is he doesn't have a lot of milage on his body for his age and style of play.
cates will need a raise next season if they keep him. unless he produces some points there is no way I give him that raise. need to see offensive improvement.

Interesting analysis, but I just can't buy the Seeler stuff. How many 31 year old #5 dmen hold their level of play to age 35? Not to mention that he already looked much worse when he came back after the injury and Walker was gone. |

Age is still age. Even if the miles haven't been hard human physiology is gonna start kicking in at some point. Probably in the next dozen or so months. Flyers will end up buying him out before the end, almost guaranteed.

Yes, dumb contract to give out considering where this team is at. May be a "surplus" today but tomorrow is right around the corner. |
