That's today. You'll listen to a podcast or a press conference or something on the radio or youtube and you'll have a different opinion. You have never been on the forefront of accurately assessing this franchise and their actions. Nor are you in anyway consistent in your opinions. On top of being clueless. - MJL
Again, you prove my point every single day. I am here trying to engage in a conversation and you within two posts revert back to the same old tired criticism. As I state all the time, you are as predictable as a doorknob. But here is nugget for you. Guess what? If Briere somehow gets lucky in the draft or somehow pulls off a trade that rights the ship, I will have unbridled optimism for the Flyers and change my mind.

I know you will change your mind. When you don't have any knowledge or conviction, when you don't take a position and are easily manipulated by outside sources or can't even remember from day to day what you post due to that lack of conviction and knowledge. It's a guarantee that you will change your mind.
There is tons of evidence of how easily you are fooled by trades and claim the team is on the path to the cup. There is no doubt in my mind that you will change.
It would be so easy for you to make the criticism go away. Learn something! Anything!
Optimism has to be earned and should not be blindly given. Anyone with a high level of optimism for this team and this frnchise, is doing just that. - MJL
Unfortunately not even picking high seems to work out that well for the Flyers historically.
Cutter, NP, Pitkanen, Provy, Sittler, Ricci... they just consistently prioritize the wrong things and/or they overlook red flags. JVR and Foppa were actually good picks but then they immediately got traded away (for players with more Flyery qualities and red flags lol).
There's something really wrong with this team. - Tomahawk
Flyers much like many in the NHL overvalue size. Size is definately an asset but you cant pick huys strictly based on size. It is why everyone loved Tyler Myers and why he still gets paid despite being average.
Ok, less than 12 teams, how about 7 or 8 teams? Buium was projected to go anywhere between 3-8 in all the mocks and rankings I saw, and the fact is he went 13th. Why? You have to at least ask the question. Why would teams pass on a projected top pairing defenseman? - jd250
6 top pairing dmen drafted in 1 draft would make it a very strong draft year.

I still think Provorov was a great selection. Especially considering the Devils passed on him and took Pavel Zacha. We need Provy at the time.
Yes Sam needs to build on his below 90 save percentage. The current team is underrated. This made my day. Also love pace. Only in hockey is pace > actual results. - hello it's me 2050
Its easy to sit there and Bash Ersson because of his low numbers when you completely ignore he was a stud for 3/4 of the season and the reason he had such a low SV% is because of the very poor month he had late in the season. There was a stretch of 10 games were 7 out of 10 starts where well under .900. Five of those starts in the 0.700 range. If we remove the one bad stretch, he had a 0.903SV%.
You also have to remember Ersson was a rookie goalie, who never played a full NHL season as a backup nevermind a starter and was just thrusted into a starting position when Hart left. He played a lot of games in a short period of time because the Flyers had no legit backup goalie. From Jan 23rd to March 23rd he had played 20 games out of the 24 games they had. 28/35 if you go to the end of the year.
It is completely understandable why his play dipped.

Provorov was likely a failure in development. Making him a 1st pair defenseman once he entered the league paired with MacDonald was not a smart choice. Maybe he still doesn’t become a stud but he might have not developed the ego problem with better vets and a slower progression up the lineup.

All their size is in the bottom of the lineup. They don’t seem concerned with size at the top of the lineup. Recent first rounders; Lunchanko, Michkov, Drysdale, York, O’Brien, Farabee, Frost, Rubsov, TK
There is a subset of sports fans who think if you're negative or pessimistic as a fan, then you're not a real fan. As if you have supported this team and rooted for it, you don't have a right to be negative towards how the team is being run. I've been behind this team and it's operation in a positive light as much as anyone can be in the past. This team has not and is not earning that from me currently. That's not to say there aren't some things to be positive about. I'm optimistic about Michkov. Overall though, there is little to be optimistic about. Anyone who is or who feels this team is on a path to true contention is delusional. That's just reality. - MJL
when you focus on negative and dont comment on very much positive stuff, you will earn being called pessimistic

Meh, he saw success with Niskanen so I dont think it was a development issue. At the end of the day your top pair Dmen typically just burst into the NHL and dominate. Not much development involved. Ive also noticed a trend that most top 6 fwds or top 4 D usually play no more than two full seasons in the AHL.

You are correct about the AHL but completely wrong about top pair dominating once they get into the league. Hedman was considered a big disappointment until his 4th season. Forsling was waived at 24 years old. Defensemen take time to develop in the NHL. Makar and Heiskanen are exceptions not the usual.

Ersson wasn't a stud for 3/4 of a season. He was extremely inconsistent. In 23 of his 51 games, his SV% was below .900. Including 11 games under .800. I agree that he is a rookie and needs to be given time

I completely agree that Provorov was not developed properly. However I disagree that he had an ego problem. He just desperately wanted to win.

No, that's not true. Elite players tend to jump right in. Not all top pairing defenseman were at that level from the beginning.

He was very good right away and good for most of his career here. I just think the Flyers hyped him up to be more than he is which made the reality of him seem disappointing.

No one is bashing him. Sam and stud should not be combined in the same sentence. Seems like lots of excuse making.
Sam also showed he can't carry the load the prior season in LHV. That is 2 seasons in a row. Yes he played a lot of games as that is what you want from you starter no?
Seems to me so far he is nothing but s decent backup. Maybe he he is more down the line. time will tell.

Provorov's strength as a player was offensively at 5 on 5. Attacking on the rush and filling in holes coming late. They tried to make him a shut down defenseman and a PP defenseman. Neither of which he was suited for. He had to be the teams top defenseman since he was 19. That's an issue that is caused by the Flyers complete lack of ability to develop defenseman over time.
That excuse was funny. No talent gap there. - Minnyhock
It was funny in that they were completely serious. Incompetence at it's highest level. Andrae is so good, that he won't make the team this upcoming season.

He was the best defenseman on the team. The coaches didn't have much of choice but to play him. The real failure to me was not getting a good veteran to play with him. Fletcher had the right idea with Niskanen and Ellis, but we know how they worked out.
