Very solid post. Well articulated points. I definitely read it all and while a few items I didn't agree with I felt you made your points well and most I agreed with . Cheers. It's the passion that unites us all. one thing mlse actually got right with that slogan.
One thing nobody EVER mentions though is we're all waiting for Tavares off the books...yet we just gave Nylander that exact same deal. Food for thought...We couldn't lose Nylander and had to sign him yet most don't want to sign Marner. Bizzaro world in Leaf land. Nylander goes from 7 million to 11.5. Tavares goes from 11.5 to 5 million. Saving a whopping 2 million is going to drastically Change this team?
If you think Marners 10.5 off the books can change this teams fortunes why can't not spending 11.5 on Nylander and spending that space elsewhere change things? Just seems all like rhetorical repeated thoughts than an actual thought process - systemtool
You're not wrong about the math.
Nylander goes up $4m, Tavares goes down $6m. If Marner stays and signs Nylander's deal and goes up just $600k - what have we really done? Matthews is up $2m, Rielly is up $2.5m, we swapped out Brodie's $5m for Tanev's $4.5m . . . so the cap is finally rising - after rising only $4m in 6 years, it went up $4.5m in one season and they project another $4m next season and then $4.5m for each of the next two.
So a larger question here is - do they want Tavares? And what do they want to pay him when the market may offer more exciting choices.
You never know who will resign with their teams, but there are a number of interesting names - Hall, Mangiapane, Bennett, Verhaeghe, Mantha, Skinner, Drouin, Faksa, McGinn, Vilardi and even guys I just like on the fringe like Bjugstad and Suter are there for lower $ for a bottom-6 . . . like there are some options there. This list ignores the heavy names like Draisaitl, Rantanen and Crosby. On defense there are some good names like Ekblad, Provorov, Theodore, Cychrun - and supporting guys that are still very effective like Forbort, Cole, Dumoulin or Schmidt,
I like when other teams offer sheet RFAs. But i would like the compensation adjusted to encourage more. The salary $$ and compensation have not kept pace. For $4.58M, that would result in a 1st and a 3rd round pick? come on now! $6.8M would cost a 1st, 2nd and 3rd? that discourages offer sheets.

Hey guys has Vlady caught up to Varsho yet?
Didn't think haters could be more wrong about an athlete than Willie the last 3 years, but looks like the extreme wrongness on Vlady surpassed that. - jribout
1a and 1b. future looks bright with Varsho locked up

Baseball is so frustrating, you can have a player on the biggest heater in team history and it barley makes a difference in the W/L record.

and if he can remove the (frank)ing popups that redirect you to another site automatically... - Symba007
I accidentally opened this site once using vanilla Chrome with no adblocker. It was like a totally different and unusable website.
I bet these ads are costing him more money than he is making from them. It drives away visitors before they have a chance to buy a "season ticket". I wonder how many potential paying members he's chased off with these barrages of irrelevant and non-targeted ads?

I opened it on my phone last night. I had to go through 3 ads, back out twice because the ad didn't have any type of progression option, see a porn ad both times I backed out and then back out of that because it didn't have a close option, before I could finally navigate to the thread. It's highly unmanageable on a phone without using Brave or some type of Ad Blocker. You would also never want to use it in any type of public setting.

I'm baffled as to how Ek thinks this is a good longterm business practice.

I honestly don't think he cares.
I think this site is a passion project of sorts and he cares more about his own experience here and not what visitors are experiencing. He probably uses an ad-block on his own PC and doesn't even see most of his own ads. He might not even be aware of exactly what kinds of products or services these ads are serving up on his behalf.
This site can't be much of a money maker. The annual revenue from season ticket holders is probably eaten up by the hosting costs. Those pop-ups and ads can't be generating much either because they chase off 10x as many people as those who click. The minute I open a website and I get hit with a pop-up ad from the 1990's, I am gone and not coming back without an ad blocker.
This site probably breaks even or makes a small income at best - certainly not day job type of money. He has to be getting a pension, settlement, social security, disability, or some other form of primary income. Nobody could live comfortably off the income this site must generate.
