Oh yes, I didn't mention Foerster who clearly developed in the 99 games he played on the Phantoms. I am not saying that Lappy is the best AHL coach on the planet, only that players are moving forward in their development under Lappy, not backwards, which we saw too much of under the previous regime. - jd250
You're confusing drafting with AHL development. Lappariere is a mediocre AHL coach at best. They should fire him. |

York has played 62 AHL games and 169 NHL games. York has developed primarily in the NHL. Most of the players you named are still prospects and have not established themselves as NHL player. There is no evidence that Lappariere is anything special as a development coach. There is also no evidence that he is the quality of coach that can eventually become an NHL coach. It is another position in the NHL that the organization should upgrade. - MJL
Yes, as far as an NHL coach I don't know about Lappy. I am specifically speaking about the development of players in the AHL since Lappy took over. |

Wait, my intention is not to move the goal posts. You asked me what player has exceeded development. That to me is moving the goal posts. I don't think any player has exceeded expectations, but certainly we are seeing players move forward in their development under Lappy. You have to admit, in the previous regime some promising players took steps back in their development, including Morgan Frost. - jd250
You don't seem to be aware that if you're going to look at the quality of development from an AHL coach. That's what you look for. Players who become better than expected under his development. Not 1st round picks who show they are NHL talent.

Oh, OK, so you are saying the Flyers are drafting better players and that is sole reason why we are seeing more young players hold their own in the NHL now than before? If so, are you ready to give Flahr some credit?
Firing Lappy is a strong position. I mean, how can you fire a coach with that strong of a French-Canadien accent? |

Was White ever really given a top 6 shot? Dring those times size was king. Hackborn as well put up huge minor league numbers. Always liked him. - hello it's me 2050
In 2000-01 when Lindros held out and was trying to recover from the concussions, White got plenty of ice time (77 GP) behind Primeau and Langkow as the de facto third line center, with the truly low-scoring Kent Manderville on the 4th line. If I recall correctly, White spent some time on the PP and was often bumped up to one of the top lines when Primeau and/or Langkow were injured (each missed a dozen or so games). 9 goals and 16 assists, not terrible but pretty far from the point-per-game player he was in the AHL.
About as good a chance as he was ever going to get, even if he (at the time) married to Clarke's daughter. |

Ok, so putting the 1st round picks aside, i.e York and Foerster, I guess we will have to see how Tuomaala, Andrae, MacDonald, Ginning and Attard perform moving forward. Right now the Flyers have some promising prospects still in college, like Kaplan and Bump, but as I mentioned there is not a lot of younger players in the AHL right now. And I think Bonk and Luchanko have a chance to go straight to the NHL from the minors, and if they play in the AHL, it will be brief. Clearly Michkov will develop completely in the NHL. |

Flahr some credit for drafting solid NHL players? Sure. What is the key though for this team. Solid players or elite players? Where are the elite players that come from lower picks that many other teams have and have developed? Understand this, the entire Flyers organization, from upper management, to the coaching staff, to the player roster is subpar. They are one of the worst organizations in the NHL. It needs to be upgraded from top to bottom.

The Flyers are in the process of doing what they always do. Over cooking prospects who have some NHL potential, never giving them a legit opportunity to the point where they are no longer in the picture. They are famous for it.

Lappy is not anything other than mediocre as a coach. I think he fits right in with the Flyers.
The Phantoms as a team are vanilla.

Did I completely miss this or is this not being reported? I imagine this doesnât bode well for the Kolosov situation, no?
https://www.mapleleafsdai...-with-flyers-organization
Could just be for depth but Jones not mentioning Kolosov either is indeed interesting - anti-lame
Seems like the flyers are hedging their bets in case he doesnât come over.
I would hope the flyers reached out and told Kolosov that they still are confident in him and to bring family over and help with the visa process.
Also get the kid a Russian speaking mentor.
If he still says no the flyers said they did their due diligence. |

I believe you are right that under Fletcher the Flyers were becoming one of the worst organizations in the league when it came Flyers organization, from upp to developing young players, but I also think they are heading in the right direction, or at least a better direction, under Briere and Jones. I agree that elite players rarely come from lower picks, and when it happens its complete luck. Luck, like hope, is not a strategy for building a successful organization. I believe the organization has been upgraded from top to bottom. I believe Hilferty is an upgrade over Scott. Briere is an upgrade over Fletcher as GM. Torts is an upgrade at coach over AV or Mike Yeo. The entire player development staff has been overhauled also. Hiring John LeClair and and Patrick Sharp, as well as Riley Armstrong and Nick Schultz have been good things also. The medical staff has been overhauled, and the analytics department is now actually part of the decision when obtaining or trading players. I think we need to give this new regime a chance instead of just assuming they will fail. |

yes, that crossed my mind also. Though as I watch Bonk and Luchanko, I do think they are going to be as good as advertised or even better. But let's face it, other than these two prospects, the rest are just middling forwards and bottom 1/3 defenseman. That is why I think the Flyers are going to try to spend and trade their way to a 1D and 1C. |
