I'd say Benson has already shown he was a great pick at 13, but I hear ya, isn't like he's a world ender...at least yet.

But I would argue that based on 2nd round hit rates, getting someone as dominant as Peterka is a heck of a steal. I don't think you can "expect" hits on 2nd rounders. Really depends on the depth of the draft.

It was only 21 pages of BS. Early 2nds are basically 1sts. Faceoffs don't matter.

His career is young, so I will wait, but so far he has the most points of anyone in his draft class. Many, including myself, expect those totals to improve as well. If that ends up being the case, he may be THE steal of the draft.

As Hank said, it's optimism as it's too early to call, but being the steal of a draft is not the same as being Pasta (one of the best in the world).

Well, decades of data and the statistical analysis thereof point to an aggregate of 37% of 2nd rounters will play <99 games.
So, depending on what your definition of "hit on" is, you may or may not be correct.

If the Org is expected to invest 4 or 5 years of development, I'd say hit means like 3+ seasons of games... But that is IMO

Who's acting that way? All I have seen and read is that for an 18 yo, he did pretty good.
Personally, I like hia relentless style of play. Sabres can use a ton of that in their lineup.

We have a lot of players that seem to be a Steal, Other than JJ No one has done anything to help this Team yet!

he played half his season with one of the better even strength ppg centers in casey and it's a 30 point player not a 70 point player

to be honest only reason he played last season is our gm was clueless on how to deal with the quinn injury and the savoie injury gave him the opportunity

he made the best of it in training camp, but to be honest, I expected more

we can say he was 18 and make excuses but you need a hell of a lot more than 30 points from where he was drafted

again he did earn the spot but he really needs to take the next 2 steps this season, like peterka did

the 13th pick the year before has 1 pt.
13th in 2021 tore up the AHL this year. Had 9pts in 34 games with the Flames.
Jarvis was 13th in 2020. Had 40, then 39 in a full year. Just broke out last year.

Not sure why you'd expect "a hell of a lot more" from an 18 year old

He did not play half the season with Casey. I don't think they played together very much after the first 10-15 games.

Casey is not a PPG player.

Benson's best quarter was with Coznens/Quinn/Peterka/Greenway to end the year. 5 goals 12 pts in 20 games.

I'll give him Peterka but i dont think players picked in the top 15 can ever be called draft steals. You should be getting good players there. Benson was picked at 13 - he should be good

If you could go back a year, would you want Benson on the roster, or would you make different moves in the offseason?

I view last year as poor management and not Benson really earning it. It's inexplicable to bring VO back last year and sign Jost as your depth to handle a Quinn injury.
