The time he got sick of Dubinsky and rag dolled him to the ice would be a good statue.
- Grinder47

When was this? He ragdolled McLean when he jumped him off the faceoff but all he did was get dropped twice against Dubinsky.

What should be the moment that the statue depicts? Could be a cool blog idea.

Hopefully it doesn’t look like the precursor to a gay orgy with hockey sticks like the one currently in front of the arena.

Yup. I would have statues of the players standing on each side of a walk way opposite each other. like at the entrance to the arena or something. Each one unique like if they held a stick a specific way or what not.

I know there’s only Mario so far and I’m imaging having like 5 on each side to start with, but you got to start somewhere.

No doubt he's a class act, but unlike most NHL players he can afford to leave money on the table to keep in legacy intact. He's probably made an easy 100 million off of things like donut endorsements over his career.

One of the times he’s been cheap shotted and Jake Guentzel stood there and watched.

He’s probably left $100M+ on the table from not doing more endorsements.

JMO... Statues are kinda lame. At minimum, put them up after the guy is dead. Retired jersey's and a bronze plaque will suffice.

Maybe the short term deal is in case the team has turned the corner in 2027 and he wants to play, he takes a vet minimum deal so the team can load up

He obviously could have got a 3 or 4 year extension if he wanted it

I guess it was more of a fight. Pretty even as far as punches. Dubinsky took him down. Just another example of Sid not being protected by the Penguins and coach “just play”.

Awesome deal for sid and the team. But im just confused by Dubas’ plan to win?

What's he telling Sid to convince him that they’re going to be “contenders” in the next 2 years? Im just assuming Sid is sticking around to mentor the new youth thats coming for the next 5 years.

Rebuild isnt happening without quality prospects/draft picks, which requires trading quality players like Pettersson and Rust

I've always been of the belief that professional hockey players do not think like most fans do at all. That they think if a guy is in the NHL he's a good hockey player, is capable of helping them win games. That pretty much all of them don't follow analytics (not dissing them, I like them) or consider teammates underlying numbers. That they think every start to a new season is a clean slate and they have a chance to win. That they're not thinking they are not a playoff team, or have no chance of making playoffs, before or when a season starts.

Crazy that the Pens get another almost 3 mill (2.8) in cap space next offseason with the Petry and Smith salary retentions coming off the books. Then you have the cap raising again plus another 9+ mill in space with Eller, Beauvillier, Neito, Grzelcyk and Shea all UFA.

Didn't mention Petts...he could take up a little chunk of all that extra space if extended...or be gone and there's another 4 mill in cap space available.

I keep joking that we are going after Mitch Marner, but I truly see him as the target next summer.

The talk in Toronto is that he wants $12M. After taxes in Toronto, his income is about $5.6M compared to around $7.1M in Pittsburgh. I know some guys insist on the dollar value of the contract being more important, but i feel like if take home money is what he cares about, Pittsburgh could easily put a good offer to him.

There are people that post around here that want nothing to do with him but I'd take him in a heart beat. However, I do believe that he will end up staying in TO.

Unlike in past years, we have a talent deficiency. Marner, while not perfect, would be a huge boast to the top 6. If you can get him, I have no idea why people wouldnt want him.

I tend to agree about Toronto. Hometown team, he likes it there. It seems like the "change" will be Tavares leaving when his contract expires.

They've got a decent amount of talent in that 20-21 range which is usually the oldest unless you have someone like Ponomarev where they wanted extra time to get him acclimated since he missed most of last year. Shows the work Dubas put in too since 4 of the top 5 forwards (McGroarty, Ponomarev, Koivunen, Avery) were his additions. Add in guys like Broz, Pickering, and Murashov and it's a lot of guys who should be pushing if not in the NHL in a year for this type of format.

Interested now to see if Avery can carve out a bigger role. He was a big junior scorer and a scrappy player that struggled with injuries as a rookie. Broz sounds like he had a tremendous showing, I might be moving more towards your thinking on him.

Follow up post, it feels like Dubas is essentially trying to recreate 2016 and 2017 where a bunch of guys are able to come up at once and supplement the core. Got goalies, Pickering for the LD, McGroarty, Koivunen, Ponomarev, Broz, Poulin to hopefully fill out the forward ranks. Could full in a lot of the biggest holes. Just unfortunately our core guys aren't in the same place to carry them. But at least some reinforcements are getting close, we hope.

Hayes had quite a prospect tourney. His line with ponamerov and McGroarty sounded impressive and a hell of a box score. Could be a nice undrafted pickup. Hopefully at least 2 members of that line stay intact in the AHL and light it up.

Everyone seems quite impressed with broz as well. Looks like their might be some tenacity and physicality with some of these kids when they make it.
