Bag skate already?

Maybe he played most of the high paid losers so they would start on time for opening night???

Keefe got them started by the second period, Berube working on 2nd week.

Maybe 3rd period. He is new

I seem to recall last preseason they rolled out an NHL roster for home games and a bunch of noobs for away games.
- Whipper

Yeah, maybe the teams agree to it beforehand somewhat when they play back to back. The Sens will do the same at home vs the Leafs, I think it gives the teams a chance to see how the bubble players play against actual NHL talent rather than other bubbles players.

Preseason game one and a lot, lot, lot of hockey under his belt in the past year - but he has been probably the worst guy out there tonight.

Even after battling back, the effort level is spotty at best from the guys who are locks to make the team.

He needs to play with someone better defensively than McCabe. Will have to find the guy who does for him what Benoit did for McCabe.

True, still early and I'm sure he's not fully engaged playing against the Sens AHLers. Hope he can ramp it up.

A lot of guys on D just don't know where the other guy likes to go.

Two times tonight and two goals both defensemen were in the same corner fishing for pucks.

I think they have visions of OEL being a top-4 guy - especially at that salary - but he's a 5/6 guy who can lead a powerplay. He shouldn't play against tougher competition. Benoit with McCabe makes more sense.

I mean I said he's one of the worst out there - and he is - but I do think Webber and Liljegren have been worse. Quillan and Reaves have also contributed next to nothing.

Let's see how everyone is looking in two weeks.

Agreed. Which is why I think it's time to move on from Lily, it was fine to eat his salary for growth before but he makes too much now to be a tweener project with upside and just doesn't fit.

OEL would probably thrive with the bigger slower physical guy who's defensively responsible in a bottom pairing role. Put him with Hakanpaa, get Benoit back with McCabe, trade Liljegren and keep Timmins to step in when the injuries hit.

Use the extra cap space elsewhere (centre)

I agree with all of this.

I'd say that it's game one of the preseason and there's lot of time to see everyone get better - including Lilly - but I have to admit that I sort of expect guys who are "a lock" to not play that hard against hungry AHL kids looking to establish some position on a pecking order - but Lilly is playing like he's a lock, and I don't think he has that luxury - and I don't think he should think he does, either. If I was concerned about any of this game it's that I would have expected to see more from Liljegren just 'cos he has something to prove.

(frank) sakes, this is what I've been saying all summer...this should be the D

Rielly, Tanev
Benoit, McCabe
OEL, Hakanpaa

Webber for LS injury
Timmins for RS injury

He's too soft to not be amazing offensively or defensively.

He has nothing that shines....doesn't hit, doesn't score, doesn't have a hard slapper, isn't sound defensively...I can't find anything he does extra well that makes him worth keeping.
