Not a problem with free enterprise at all, just don't think he is worthy (at this point, based on body of work) to be the highest paid goalie which is what "setting the standard" essentially means. No quotable, verifiable, official reports for the numbers other than rumors (which go both ways for the supposed low ball offers from the Bruins) but that is where "setting the standard" would fall...simple logic.

The problem I have with setting the standard (for any player) is that it drives a much larger have's and have not's scenario in the NHL (or any other sport with a hard salary cap...okay, pretty much just the NHL) and not really sure why the PA would want that. Much less money to go around for the "average" player. As far as the cap going up, there is no guarantee of that. We are nearing the potential lockout/strike zone of the CBA and if either of those happen the cap will freeze for quite some time.

Of course the fact that Sweeney overpaid for each of his White Whale acquisitions this off-season doesn't help one bit...

Thing is he wouldn't be highest paid. Would love to verify ((frank) you Washington Capitals), but it's still Vasilevskiy and Price at 10Mil. Shesterkin and Sorokin are going to completely (frank) over the market barring some sort of miracle.

If you go by the numbers his play was on par with Sorokin's numbers that earned him his contract. So that's the comparable most people and the market are drawing.

Bridging this kid would be a huge mistake. Last year was the time to do it and Sweeney chose not to.

I did yeah. Absolutely love it up here. Although I have no idea how I'm going to watch the games. Leaning towards Fubo.

I'm not saying McAvoy is a bad Dman or trying to make him out to be Cody Ceci. I just currently don't believe he's "the guy"

I want to see how he plays a full year with someone other than Gryz. For me he might show more. Not sure Zads is the right partner, but we will see.

I'm sorry but I will not fault Swayman one bit here. Sweeney has been playing mind games with Swayman for a few years now.

Neely and Sweeny have certainly pulled some dumbass moves over the years.

Having said that, not sure I trust what comes out of Swayman's agent's mouth either. He was Nylander's agent too, after all. Holding out for more is part of his MO...

Could be a huge part it. Could also be additional pressure since Hampus Lindholm was putting up a career low season. I just hated what I saw from him in the Florida series.

New season. I'd love to be told in the spring that I was way wrong. I really want that happen.

Hey im with ya. Blame the agent. I just dont blame Swayman. He stated his intention clearly. His agent is known to hold out. We should put the agent on trial. Unfortunately the way the press conference came across they wanted to put Swayman on trial in the court of public opinion to add pressure.

it is true, Swayman could stop this and just say "agree to the last offer". But given the way he has been treated, why would he?

He has been in the Norris conversation in the past. Would love to see him go out and win one.

Which is the real issue. It has been bungled from jump street.

At the end of the day, whether it is 7.8 or 8 million. Swayman should be signing that deal.

Not enough data for me to make that call (yet another reason the two year arbitration deal would have answered EVERYTHING!).

Which makes my point over the last several seasons. The front office is and continues to be this teams biggest problem.

Honestly I think the next couple days are going to be the deciding factor. If they dont decide on a contract soon, I have a feeling the gears are going to flip from extension to trade.

After all this drama, a trade would be a disaster. They will probably only get lowball offers for Swayman after all this. None of it looks good on management.

Granted only pre-season but Korp has looked pretty good so far. Looks like a more than serviceable backup who can start for a while...hopefully that's the situation.

Jim Carey is ready for a comeback!

My smartass was gonna say Blaine Lacher but I think he passed away earlier this year. RIP
