The problem with those (and the current) Red Wings isn't that they called up guys too slow or too fast. The problem is that none of them were even close to elite; they were just good. The current Wings will have the same problem - a couple very good (not great so far) players do not a contender make.

The current Hawks have one guy who might be great, and a defenseman who is very good. To channel my inner Fatty, great players don't need much marination - their jump right off the screen as different than the rest. I've asked this before - who jumps off the screen as a "holy crap, that guy's gonna be great"? Maybe Frankie? They need more studs. Several more.

And they’ll likely have to go the FA/trade route to get one/some

How bad has the power play been in practice, if PP2 consists of the 4th line?

Also on PP1, how does Bedard,s touches happen when he is not in position to shoot? Geez everyone knows where Ovechkin is going to set up on the PP, yet he still gets his looks

A little early for preseason alarm bells.

Most have not played on a line together, and this is a vetaran club, not that doesn't guarantee a giant leap in scoring , but it should make the the two way forwatd position much more accountable, so they WILL be better.
But unless a couple lines catch fire and score consistently, it looks like a top ten drafting club.

I am trying to figure out a way to watch the Icehog-laden line-up tonight...no lucj yet.

I am again avoiding the new hurricane threat (no predicted a s coming straight at me) by flying toi LA for oldest grandson Nolan's 13th birthday.

I was less stressful being away from weather and news on the last one.

Angotti, are you alright after the last one?

All good Wiz, thanks for asking. No issues at home, but the beaches and coastal restaurants took a hit with storm surge. I believe that was the case up and down the gulf coast. Punta Gorda’s downtown area flooded as well. The ground is overly saturated and more rain coming tomorrow.

I was thinkng the exact same thing watching bedard on the pp. whats the point of having him out there if all he does is pass the puck back to the point? Also, its not enough to have no one around him if they cant get him the puck, he needs to move into open passing lanes. To me hes too high on the wing to be dangerous or egfective.[/img]

Got to see 2025 goalie prospect Joshua Ravensbergen, 6-5, 192, Prince George WHL last night here in Seattle. PG defeated Seattle 5-2. This was a heavy game with several fights in the second period and lots of collisions throughout the game. Ravensbergen's net was crashed twice but he was not injured. Seattle is still a rebuilding team since the championship 2 years ago with the Chicago prospects. Prince George is one of the favorites to win the WHL West, so Seattle was a little overmatched as indicated by the final score.

Ravensbergen is very tall and catches with the right hand. He is very calm in net, stays square, and has a good glove hand. Quick reactions, able to stop some shots close in. Capable handling behind the net. Comes out to challenge on breakaways. Very good at tracking through traffic (and sometimes over, using his height). Gave up 2 goals on 28 shots (he always has plenty of work, as PG plays a wide-open style). First goal he gave up was in close on the PP, quick shot over the left shoulder. The second was late in the game with a 5-1 lead, a shot on the rush that leaked in between his leg and the post. There was another awkward play early in the game, he bobbled an easy dump in and didn't know where the puck was, turned out to be under his leg, though at first it appeared to be a bad goal.

The book on him, as you might suspect due to his height, is to shoot hard and low; his one loss earlier this season was due to a couple of low shots where he left a rebound for easy scores. He will have to work on when to go down or stay up, and on covering the edges of the goal where good shooters can score and pucks can leak through.

There is a lot of upside for Ravensbergen but it depends on how he can handle the challenges of being that tall. Season stats are: 4-0-1, 2.39 GAA, 0.927 save percentage. Has faced 164 shots over 5 games, so about 30 or so a night.

--------------------

PG Forward Jett Lajoie, RHLW, 5-11, 177, 2025 eligible had a goal and an assist, giving him 5-5-10 in 6 games (he had 10 pts in 60 games last year). Might be another PG player who comes out of nowhere like Terik Paraczak did last year. We will see but may be someone to watch for.

Thank you, totem. Your observations of what you see live are very helpful. ......Caught 2 periods of Saskatoon @ Calgary. The booth said Saskatoon was very young coming of losing last yrs playoff series with 6 of the 7 games going to OT!

But they looked good. Fast, hungry, connected... Love to get your thoughts on that squad if you see them live.

Hahaha sure did, where I'm located of all the channels i get a poor reception it's those 2. I tell you that's the nice thing of having a video app for your garage, i put it on the tv in the family room while i was on the roof looking for the best reception.

On another note this team even the minor league guys, just keep working on your passing because it's brutal

I can imagine that some AHL call ups might be a tonic to help stir the offense and help the defense with break out & puck carrying up ice. Nazar would be the driving force hopefully for a second offensive line. Perhaps who is moved where on both top lines is going to mean both lines will click

The team looks like it will have problems “clicking” with the players on board minus any Rockford call ups when TT and Bertuzzi do not click. Does Foligno need to play with Hall on Bedard line? I agree with the Bertuzzi to Bickel comparison but we shall see Where is TT going to be able to excel?

I would recall two players by Niv 1 if the team isn’t gelling. DelMaestro is going to have some responsibility moving puck up ice as well as Vlasic. They aren’t ideal choices but maybe they can do it better than some of the other dmen? The other recall of course Nazar. Leave KK and Allen in AHL for a while to improve their game at that level. Crevier is not the type dman who helps with the issues this defense appears to have. He might one day be a piece but stays in AHL for now. Time for Phillips to step up and perform/will he?

The game is supposedly WGN radio no sports ap’s providing box score no stat’s just the score which is now 4/0 Blackhawks! But Blackhawks.com site did have video of first goal tonight

After Nazar failed on a wrap around, puck came to blueline and a DelMaestro shot was redirected past goaltender.

What do you deduce the paramount magnitude of the Hawks proficiency will be?

Paramount magnitude?
Like wiz said a top ten drafting team even if they get a spark from a couple of AHL recalled. Bedard is not able to be Superman; he needs help on his line and teams cannot treat us as a one line team. Long season.

Yes, but I’m also seeing that chemistry between Kurashev and Bedard, until they find another wing that can be more productive with Bedard, I’d keep those two together. That will leave two of Hall, Bertuzzi, and Teuvo for the second line, which will balance the scoring a bit.

Is it chemistry, or that they are playing the Springfield Thunderbirds.

Saving it for Utah? Why tempt fate?

Pretty sure Bedard needed to be in a game like this -and, this would have been the game to have seen (not on, on ESPN Australia unfortunately...).

Reichel - Bedard - Kurashev
Hall- Teravainen- Bertuzzi
Foligno - Richardinson - Anderson
Donato - Athanasiou - Smith

Extra: Maroon

Vlasic - Jones
Martinez - Murphy
Del Mastro - Allan

7th: Brodie

Mrazek
Brossoit

There is my lineup. If you want Nazar and Korchinski in Rockford to start, this is what I would go with. In a perfect world, I would waive Brodie and Maroon and have Slaggert up and have Phillips as the 7th D.

I guess question is: Do the hawks want to run the PP through him? Or do they want him moving around looking to rip one timers and score goals?

I’d at least like to see him used like McDavid. Love when they set him up with the puck up high and he’s already skating toward net. Makes it so hard to cover for pk. Pass shoot or handle around the PK and get to the net.

I know Bedard isn’t as fast but with that wrister him attacking from the top gonna have to take away his space gives him options and he can still get that shot off with tight coverage.

Him stagnant passing back and forth to the point is trash.
