Get ready for a travesty….will Andrae be here in short order? I think so. But the #s are what they are. This is where a solid GM makes a move so a kid like him does have a role. Same with a guy like Cates. Seemed a bit snake bitten, but seemed to find his game last night.
If the Flyers still are selling this as a rebuild it can’t be guys that are younger and with higher upside and have earned a spot being the ones to get cut.

I didn't think Cates was all that good last night against an AHL lineup. He scored a lucky goal late, and had other chances that he just could not bury. IMO Cates is a tweener, 4th line guy, extra forward. The Flyers can do better.

I have got to think Andrae wins the 8th defenseman role, but really, is that what we want him to be? I would rather him play in LHV if that is all the Flyers can offer right now.

DB did at the beginning of camp. IIRC he mentioned Richard and Abols as guys he was expecting to make a push for opening night.

The 8th spot isn’t what you think. If Andrae doesn’t make the team and plays, he’s the first call up. That’s what the 8th spot is.

As Torts said, the kid's been sacrificing offense for defense to get those results, and he'd like to see if he can recalibrate that balance.

I think Torts said he’s not gonna roll with 8 defensemen to start the road trip, so I have a feeling you’ll get what you want there.

He looked good against a bunch of ahl and junior players. Did he look this good against nhl players?

So flyers carry 8 D and hile plays every 3 games?

Nah .. Andrae has looked good against NHL caliber players also. But right now the top 7 are set, which really irks me.

Cates has had to sacrifice offense at center two seasons ago as a defensive center. I don’t think Cates was anything special no matter what position you placed him in last season.
