waive him bank cap space
- hello it's me 2050

I agree, I would waive him and bring up Lycksell.

I pray this isn't another luca sbisa poop show. Oh he's such a good skater and he's on really good shape so lets give him the 9 games. He did so well in the 9 games lets just keep him up and the rest is history.

Smart play is him going to junior team and getting 9 games next year when he has physically grown. His skating will help him but nhl has fast skater who hit and he isn't built to take hits from nhl players.

This is torts trying to ice the best team regardless of what is good for the players development.

- Flyerloon

If this leads to getting another Chris Pronger, I hope it is another one of those poop shows.

Briere compares Jett Luchanko to Patrice Bergeron in terms of players who were rushed but still worked out.

Also mentioned St. Louis numerous times as a model they are trying to follow when asked about drafting high and acquiring elite players.

So basically, the plan is to catch lighting in a bottle for one season and suck in perpetuity.

Remember when the fans on this board were begging the Flyers to value speed...

But who are you to make this statement? How many NHL games have you played? How many hockey games have you coached? How many NHL players have you developed? I didn't see enough from Luchanko to think he should start with the team this year either, especially after the Bruins game the other night where I thought he looked overwhelmed. However I have to remember that how people like Torts watch a game or a player is very different that the way I might watch as a fan. How I perceive a player is completely irrelevant. What matters is what Torts and Briere's criteria is for a player to be part of the team. And the reality is, in their professional judgement as NHL coaches, former players and executives, Luchanko has met the criteria for at least a 9 game tryout. As fans, let's just enjoy it and see how it goes. I am personally excited to get the chance to watch him play and see how he does. Hoping he does a lot better than the game the other night that I witnessed, but then again the entire sucked for most of it.

Slow down, everyone has an opinion and while I agree that the thruple's opinion is all that matters as they have roster control of the team it doesn't mean they are correct. You aren't going to get everyone on this board to turn off their brains and agree with you.

Do you have issue with any of my other points?

As far as Jett not meeting the criteria and it just being my opinion, you really should read the blogs you are posting in.

I am personally not in favor of Luchanko making the opening night NHL roster. If you believe the player is NHL-ready for a nine-game run, you also need to be ready to keep him beyond that point. Luchanko had an excellent rookie camp and strong start to NHL camp and the preseason. He held his own thereafter, but by no means "broke down the door" (the typical very high bar for a draft-plus-one or draft-plus-two player to break into the NHL right away). At least that's how I see it. Others seem to disagree.

- bmeltzer

this one is also concerning :
Do I have a fear that Luchanko will not be properly developed as an offensive player up to his ceiling because they're satisfied with his speed and defensive upside? Yes, I do have that concern.

I'm not sure why but your argument reminds me of the lawyer from "The Verdict" (great movie). The facts aren't on his side but just keeps trying to get the witness to give up on the truth.

Some of those who frequent this forum are absolutely hopeless. I read almost every day that "its not a rebuild", "Flyers goona Flyer", "Why is Nick D on this team", etc. etc.

Now the Flyers come into the season starting an 18 year old kid at 3C and a 19 year old 1st round pick starting at wing on the first line. And best of all, Nick D is the 14th forward! Yet all I see on this forum is more negativity. It never stops!

Actually it's you that is not making sense. As if I said that there can be no benefit of him playing NHL games. Which I did not. Your premise to me suggests that he has to play in regular season NHL games to learn what he has to work on. As if he ;couldn't have learned that in the pre season or from the coaching staff without playing in the regular season. Have you ever heard the adage that you can't hurt a player by sending him back but you can by rushing him? Any idea what that's about?
- MJL
That statement (that you can hurt a player by rushing him) is over stated and overrated! This kid apparently plays a 200 foot game and thinks the game at an NHL level. He can also skate at an NHL level. Now if he goes past 9 games and it becomes painfully obvious that he is nowhere near ready for the NHL that would be a problem. Personally, I think he gets 9 games or less and goes back to junior, and I have no problem with that.

That was his point, that they were able to win without elite talent and instead win with depth.

So Danny Briere wants to be the St Louis Blues who won their first and only cup 5 years ago? The same team that I don’t think have made the playoffs since?

Well this has been quite the day.

I even received a message from a stranger on Facebook because he told me a week ago Jett Luchanko should make the team and I disagreed. Apparently he held on to this conversation and decided to rub it in my face.

Congratulations Dave Shellenberger from camp hill Pennsylvania.

Since to my knowledge you have never played in the NHL. Does coaching games have to be at the NHL level. How many NHL players have you developed? Maybe that all disqualifies you from having an opinion. Is that the standard. Why do people keep posting this stupid nonsense. We're all fans giving out opinions on a web site. I doubt there are any NHL coaches posting here. There are no requirements or litmus test to pass to offer an opinion.

Why is that statement over stated and over rated? If that is true then why do you bring up the possibility that he could go past the 9 games and it would be a problem? You're contradicting yourself.

If the line up potentially looks like this. Did someone say Nick D was still taking up a roster spot?

Nick D might be taking up cap space but he’s officially not holding back any of the kids.
