Not sure if anyone else feels this way, but watching Utah last night was the first time in years that I didn't feel like they were a complete joke

They looked good - but I'm reluctant to feel that way just yet. Chicago did look absolutely awful and I don't think it was because of Utah playing well. The Hawks looked just all over the place, disorganized - no one seemed to know where the other would be and no one was supporting the other. It was chaos. The only good moments really happened when Bedard was on the ice.

Utah didn't look like the oilers by any means, but there was a big arena with lots of cheering fans, and maybe just the association I've made over the years between burgundy and abject failure

Hate to say it but I genuinely wonder if the league scheduled their first game to be up against a rebuilding hawks team to give Utah the best chance at winning their opener.

wouldn't surprise me

to put a more positive spin on it, maybe it was getting a team with a fresh start to go up against one of the best up and coming players of the game

I will make a Pierre Dorion of myself and say that for the first time, they looked like a an actual team.

But I do like alot of their players, they are trending upwards and, for the first time, will have the funds and the fans to back them up.

25 year old goalie gets 4 years.

31 Year old goalie gets 8 years.

What could go wrong? lol

I think that's backwards, the 25 year old got 8 years

Same reason the Leafs are playing a bottom feeder to start their season with their new coach.

It's funny because the Habs could ice a 50+ beer league team against the Leafs and projecting the winner would still be a coin flip

That’s a solid way of looking at it, I’ll roll with that. Thank you

70 - 73 pts the past two seasons. Not bad.
- Fakepartofme

Yeah, but we got Michael Grabner for him.

Good job, Leafs front office.

Bet your entire life savings that the Habs score the first goal.

My daughter was really excited - about a month ago, she was looking at tickets for tonight's game, and they were very reasonable.

She now has two mid-terms tomorrow, so those plans were shelved.

I’m named after my dad and he’s a habs fan, so when considering both of us there is someone with my bloody name who will be happy with either team winning tonight ffs lol

Maybe we can go reverse leafs curse and Pacioretty scores the first goal of the game (on the way to a 4-3 OTL)

That part - the enthusiasm and the crowd was fantastic. It's not like Utah doesn't have good players. Keller, Cooley, Guenther, Maccielli and Sergachev are all good players. I am particularly fond of Cooley's play - he has some Marner in him, but he'll need better insulation around him at 5v5. I made a comment yesterday that I grabbed Celebrini in the late rounds on my points pool (not a keeper or anything) - but I do sort of wish I'd picked Cooley instead because I think he'll get more points this year.

I really hope, for their sake, that Connor Ingram has established himself. I thought he had some good moments for the Canadian WJCs when he was younger, but he's seemed on and off at the pro level (sort of like he was through that tournament, to be honest).

Yeah, it didn't look like a Generals game at the old Oshawa Civic Auditorium.
