I'm just glad that they continue to use Reilly on the PP1.

The definition of success is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. That's how the saying goes right ?

They absolutely have to switch to OEL on PP1.

He's easily top 10 in goals among defenders the last 10/11 years.

He's not going to win the Norris or shut down McDavid. But he can score. They just have to use him correctly and the PP1 is definitely where he belongs.

8th in past 11.

And the point being, far more than anybody else the Leafs have on the blueline.

OEL will frustrate you. Just seems so disinterested at times.

Don't need him to do anything other than what he's good at.

Don't need him to be on the PK (he was out there for the GA).

Don't need him to shut down McDavid.

Just need him to play on the PP and be average the rest of the time.

Jeez I leave for my 10pm Beer League game and Leafs are down 1-0 but getting lots of chances and I feel confident there is no chance they lose 1-0 to the Habs.

My team lost 2-1 to the team that won the A division last year so I'm feeling pretty good about that and check the Leaf score.

WTF happened?

Good lord.

I assume there was no big "revenge'' fight between WIFI and REEVO?

I would not have guessed my beer league team would score more goals than the Leafs tonight.

Look at it this way... could be worse. We coulda Ouler'd or Pens'd it up tonight. Instead was a close tight game and we hit iron what? 3-4 times at that too. Only game one but least we weren't trounced.

I’ve seen the highlights 3 times now.

So in short.

Habs got lucky with the Leafs hitting 3 or 4 posts.

Suzuki is a diver and the Habs got la 5 on 3 they but didn’t cash.

Stolarz was very good. Again.

Habs October Cup is won and we can now move on.

Ans now hearing Craig Button rambling about Woll & if he can stay healthy. God Button is a moron.

I’m far from worried about this loss let the Habs fans celebrate being dominated 5 on 5 and winning the special teams contest.

Woll was placed on IR and will miss at least a week and perhaps more, maybe a lot more (If it’s a groin injury, his absence could be weeks).

Which means Stolarz could be, and very likely will be, required for a lot more work in the weeks ahead than was anticipated.

This for someone who has topped out at 24 starts in an NHL season, a mark he hit last season in a supporting role with Florida.

Whoa - that’s not a start Woll or Leafers need -

I believe in Woll's talent, but it's not easy to believe in his training or conditioning if it's yet another groin issue.

With Stolarz, it's an interesting question. Has he been limited to fewer than 25 starts due to his conditioning or due to circumstances? I mean he didn't really establish himself as even a backup until just 3 years ago - before that he bounced around and was a third or fourth string guy having never started more than 10 games for any team he'd been on (Philly, Edmonton or Anaheim). Then things changed and he's been pretty good since but behind guys who routinely get around 50 starts a year.

I think he came to Toronto because he sense the opportunity play 40 games and stop living in someone else's shadow - especially a guy like Gibson, who hasn't cast a livable shadow in more than 5 years!

Freidman saying Leafs actively shopping Lilly.

Didn't love Timmins last night but with minutes he's got to atleast give you whatever Lilly gave you. Hakanpaa may get in the mix too.

It was a good game. I mean my takeaways on the game were that the Leafs had elevated physicality, they worked harder on the small battles. I like how the "lesser" guys like Lorentz contribute in their roles - like that 4th line dominated a lot of its shifts. Matthews was a beast and Knies was _working_. The middle six could use a bit more chemistry. I don't think they were outplayed, per se, but I didn't feel that they were noticeable - like Robertson had the puck a few times, but couldn't get it to the net. Patches was alone in front but his shot was a flub. JT had some moments with the puck and some nice passes, but struggled to get it to the net cleanly. I thought Marner, Nylander and Domi could have all been better. Marner had some unforced turnovers. Nylander spent too much time on the outside a few one on ones where he opted not to engage for the puck, and Domi wasn't as effective as he was down the stretch last year.

I wouldn't have too much bad to say about the D overall. In fact I thought they started slower and gained chemistry as the game went along. Even the most noticeably poor one - Timmins - was much better in the third compared to how he'd played in the rest of the game.

The hero of the game? If you're not going to credit Montembeault - and we should - it was his posts.

Giving Hildebeast his 1st NHL action on the road on a B2B to a home opener to a team that just rolled Sabres and gets back 2 key D men and that is much much better than Habs seems… well frankly Very Leafy…

He’ll probably win… 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I prefer Lilly to Timmins, but not when contract is factored in.
3 vs 1.1

I rather they just find someone better than both

I think the game was pretty split between the two teams. The Habs getting the better chances in the first half in the typical home opener hype and Stolarz standing tall against very good chances.

Then, again in typical home opener fashion, the team lost a little steam and Toronto was the better team in the 2nd half. This time it was Montembault who was simply perfect.

Overall a very entertaining game. Leafs didn't look bad despite the loss, Montreal showed some interesting stuff too. Glad we got the two points but it could have gone either way.

Button is a moron, but the low confidence in woll's ability to stay healthy is real. He got injured in the last second of game 6 to miss game 7 and gets injured again just before game 1. For now, Im fine with Stolarz and the beast throwing shade between the pipes.
Time to get McMann back in the line up
