Risto and Johnson as our 3rd pairing? Oh boy......
- Thors-Hammer

I like it a lot better than Rostolainen elevated in the lineup.

Even if he wants to keep Cates at center, he's still better than Poehling.
- MJL

100%

Cates is a legit shut down center. Poehls only plays one on TV.

That's because Tortorella is a defensive coach and will always cater to defense. It's just more ineptitude. Similar to his epiphany of pondering over the Summer that the Flyers need to score more dirty goals. It took a coach of his experience level to have to think about it over the Summer. What tools might be at a coaches disposal that would give him that information in real time? Same tools that would tell him that Cates is a better winger than center. The game has passed him by.

Just funny to me how Torts seems to pick a new golden boy every season and the old ones end up forgotten at the bottom of the heap.

Cates going from can't do anything wrong 1C to completely out of the lineup 24-mos later is wild. And Poehls is back to being a L4'er.

Well, things change in life. AmIrite? Still trying to figure out how a horribly run Flyers organization had all that success from 1985-2005!

So you admit they have been unsuccessful for the last 20 years.

Q: How successful have they been in the salary cap era?

A: Not very

I like Michkov with konecny. He’s far better than Tippett. Get him with our very best. To me unless Tippett drastically changes Michkov will waste away on his line he doesn’t see the ice well enough to play with him

I can't really argue that the Flyers as an organization have not handled the cap era well. Aside from the 2008 run to the Conference finals and the 2010 run to the Finals, it has not been pretty. No sugarcoating that. The last 12 years have been brutal, but that dude said that they have been inept since the 1970's and that simply is not correct.

I said they haven't been ahead of the curve since the 70's.

You chose to interpret that as they've sucked since the 70's.

This has been a team that's split its attention between trying to rekindle the BSB and trying to copy other teams' homework for the past 50-years.

Seeler suffering two injuries since signing his four year extension was very predictable. It's a lot of term for a 30-something #5 dman whose main skill is getting hit by the puck. I wonder if he manages to play more than the 176 games Grossman played on his 4-year contract before he was dumped in Arizona.
- Feanor

Of Seeler's career 595 blocked shots over 430 of them have come as a member of the Flyers. He's done what he needed to do to get paid and now we will see what toll that takes on a 31.5 yr old body.

The contract extension is questionable but the Flyers place to much value on their culture guys.

And yet they easily could have won 3-5 more Cups since 1975? Hmmm...

Pretty easy way to accommodate that

Foerster-Couturier-Konecny
Tippett-Frost-Michkov
Farabee-Luchanko-Brink
Laughton-Poehling-Hathaway

- Feanor

Tippett didnt jel well with Mich and Frost in the preseason

I'm not shocked that this has to be explained to you but who has said that the Flyers organization was horribly run between 1985-2005?

Tippet won’t be the one with the puck. But he’s certainly more of a rush producer than a cycle guy. Michkov works well in zone

Hmmm..... where do I find that in the records book. Were there parades for those "easily could've won" Cups?

You don't have to be a head of the curve to win cups.

Yup, a garden variety team can go on a heater (like STL did in '19) and win a Cup. Lucky breaks, goaltending, favorable matchups, injuries... everything could break in your favor.

That's not something you can expect to happen and build your team around tho. Which makes Danny recently citing the Blues as a model for their "rebuild" so funny.
