Yeah, seen lots of debate on either breaking up the first line or simply start small and move Heineman to the second line (with that wicked shot we saw in the shootout!).

I think I'd prefer to see Heineman move up to the top 6, I think he has been one of their better all-round forwards so far this season and he should get a look.

I am not really in favour of breaking up that first line yet, but I get why it might happen sooner than later..

awesome job with the blog once again, Hugo

I was kinda surprised to see how well Hutson and Mailloux did against the Islanders. they weren't playing against an offensive juggernaut but still, they were very sound defensively for the most part, which I thought might be lacking on that kind of pairing. agreed on Matheson, he needs to be better and perhaps ideally his ice time needs to be managed, maybe we could give PK responsibilities to someone else to do so.

as for the second line, not sure about the exact combinations but I'd try putting Dach on the wing until he finds his mojo back, without any responsibilities that usually come with playing center.

Or maybe split the center draws, based on left / right or def / off zone.

Get some reps in there for Newhook, in case a swap is needed.

Something really needs to happen.

ideally Dach would've come out the gates flying but I think this was to be expected after missing so much time. the fact that he's playing with Armia and Newhook really isn't helping.

I'd almost be tempted to swap Dvorak and Darch, play the 2 kids with him to see what happens.

I'd tend to keep Dach on the 2nd line and bring someone else with him to help him out. Dvorak is where the offensive plays go to die.

tks Hugo, good blog as usual.

I think your expectations for Matheson are too high. yes he had lots of points last season, he's a great skater... but he still finished the season at -30 or something, way way way worse than the other dmen. I think Savard was -6.
on a good team he's a 2nd pairing dman, unless you can pair him with a stud like Weber was in his prime. Guhle is not there yet.
Matheson doesn't look to be 100% though. I know he had a dayoff last week, but it's easy to see he doesn't skate as well as he usually does.

as for the forward group, yeah. patience. I'd give more icetime to the kids. our young dmen do well, why not give the same opportunity to Heineman and Kapanen?
looks like our goalies will have to save the day often again this year lol
