FYI:
Last year when it came to fines the leafs weren’t even top 3 (4 each), tied for 4th (3 each), and they wouldn’t even be that bad if it wasn’t for Keefe’s stupid argument with the refs.
Anyone who believes the leafs are picked on by the league is wrong. |

oh I’m sure $5K seems like a lot to someone who makes $3.5 million a year.
To him that’s like the cost we get ordering a double burger instead of a single one. - Dozzer
my point why was he even fined. he got 2 in the sin bin and that should of been all he got. |

Nope, until the facts match up with the argument I won’t believe it. |

the number of fines/suspension does not tell me they are or are not targeted or penalized more than other teams or more than average.
for a team that has a rep of being soft and not playing tough, they seem to get a bigger share of it.
also, it feels like similar incidents the leafs get bused for, other teams get away with.
one team can do 10 bad things and get 3 fines, the leafs can do 4 bad things and get 3 fines..... just as an example.

I care that OEL was fined.
I tried to explain why in the prior blog.
I believe the Leafs are treated differently than some other teams by the NHL DOPS and one 'fact' with respect to the # of fines teams got in one season will not change my opinion.
The Leafs being more harshly treated by the DOPS has been a trend since 2016/2017 when oddly enough George Paros joined and then became the head of the DOPS.
Found this article from this Feb which has lots of facts about how often the Leafs are penalized in relation to other teams, how often they have DOPS hearings and suspension etc.
https://thehockeywriters....ng%20non%2Dhockey%20plays.
For a team near the bottom of the league in # of penalties taken it sure seems odd that they have so many suspensions no?
The key points from the article (which was about Rielly's suspension and that he would appeal from the empty neck slapshot by the Ottawa Loser) for me were these:
- Since the start of the 2017-18 season, the Maple Leafs are actually 29th most penalized team with 3,838 penalty minutes over those six and a half seasons. They are 30th when it comes to penalty minutes per game (with 7:34) and have the 27th most minors (1,506) over that span.
- Major penalties, they have just 79 which is sixth fewest in the NHL over that span with one match penalty, 20 misconducts and four game misconducts — all within the lower third of the league since the start of 2017.
- Counter that with the numbers that’ve come down from Parros and the DoPS. No team has had a player suspended more times than the Maple Leafs over that span — leading the way with 10 suspensions between the regular season and playoffs. Three of those were in-person hearings, another category in which the Maple Leafs are tops in the league since 2017.
- They are the only team to have three or more suspensions of five games or more and while they don’t lead the way in overall games, they do come second in that category to the Washington Capitals — thanks to Tom Wilson.
So in conclusion I will continue to believe the DOPS treats the Leafs differently and fines, demands in person hearings and suspends Leafs players disproportionately compared to the rest of the league. |

How does that explain why you guys keep whining about the refs despite being one of the least penalized teams though?

Yes Habs fans never whine, & are the most reasonable and rationale group of fans in the entire league, how could I have forgotten that?
The link I posted seemed to not work but it was to a story about Habs fans flooding the 911 call centre demanding Chara be arrested for attempted murder on Patches when he was hit into the glass a few years ago. Totally rational response. lol
(Keep running Forest!!!!!!! *I mean that in the most loving way Scabby*)

The list of guys who were jettisoned / left the Leafs is a bit deceiving in that half that list is AHL guys, most of whom never saw a game for the Leafs. lol
Leafs need to push through being tired, the fear of making coach angry pants engraged just might make them do it! |

Someone mentioned CBJ may be going 11/7. They should probably play 2 FWDs and 3 D the whole game cuz the Leafs are gonna cave their faces in. I said 6-3 earlier, but probably gonna be 8-1. - Whipper
Yep, I smell a brutal beating coming down on the Jackets.
