so the contract starts next year when he turns 24 years old in October 2025 and takes him to age 31
fabulous - jimbro83
I'm not the best at digging up stats, but from what I found if Laf signs for $7.6M, there will only be 4 players that make less than him that had more 5v5 points between last year and the beginning of this year:
Brandon Hagel: 55 points, $6.5M
Zach Hyman: 52 points, $5.5M
Wyatt Johnston: 50 points, $894k
Nikolaj Ehlers: 50 points, $6.0M
Laf has 49 5v5 points, tied with Marner, Nylander and Max Domi. Domi makes $3.75M so you could include him in this list if you want.
Ehlers and Johnston are due new deals next year, which would presumably be in the same range if not higher than $7.6M
Stutzle and Raymond who are often compared to Laf and would both be paid higher have 46 5v5 points in a similar amount of games and Jack Hughes has 38 points in 17 less games
All this to say what we already know: this would be an incredible deal for the Rangers.

This signing also tells me that with Laf on his trajectory plus a team friendly deal once Trouba is presumably bought out after the season, Laf will be wearing the "C" in 2025-2026

Yea been saying that for awhile. He’s the C in waiting
Maybe gives them the wiggle room they want for Shesty extension now |

Laf is way too goofy for the C. Probably Fox or kreider |

So they sent down rempe and ruhwedel. Are they just not carrying any extra players? Or is this all cap related |

IMO Laf has gotten a lot less goofy if you watch his interviews between this year and last and is ready to take that leadership role.
Fox is a decent option but seems like more of a quiet leader like McD was, which I'd prefer if they didn't go that direction. I think Kreider's chance at captaincy came and went when Trouba was chosen. If he wanted it I think he would be captain now over Trouba but either he didn't want it or the room didn't choose him. After this year Kreider only has 2 more years left on his deal and I think it makes sense to pick a captain with a longer time frame.
Obviously not a slam dunk that it's Laf, but I think it makes a lot of sense. |

I believe Ruhwedal was related to Lindgren coming back and Rempe seems like a move to get him more ice time, plus Vesey coming back soon |

Just think about this increase in depth with those returning from injury!
Now, we have Jones as the 7th dman, with Mancini still in. And, Vesey/Brodzinski swapping out for each other on the 4th line. |

Meant to quote Skjei
In essence they trust Edstrom over Rempe at the moment. Vesey and Carrick would be the fixtures on the 4th line it seems. Rempe didn’t play last night (Florida is the one team you’d expect Rempe in the lineup against) and that tells you all you need to know
I miss Jimmy V in the lineup. That’s my guy as we know lol |

It’s nice to know I’m not the only one that has seen a huge decline in Mika’s play. What really just irks me is the lack of effort and he seems to really be tightening that stick. He seems to be having issues with every pass. Idk I love Mika and think he’s a very good player but he just doesn’t seem like the player he was 2 years ago. My level of expectation for him is higher and when I see such lazy play or lack of hunger to win pucks it infuriates me… Not to say he is the only one who didn’t play well last night because that’s not the case but his play has stood out to me to start the season as someone who can 100% raise his level of play. We need Mika to be Mika if we want to raise the cup. That’s where my head is at.
Just to note Laf deal is absolutely a bargain!! What an amazing signing and I’m sure Laf was willing to come down a little bit for it to be team friendly. Maybe Igor can hop on board soon. |

Can anyone tell me what Igor’s expiring contract is? He already gave up 4 years for us. |

Igor's contract has turned into a very team friendly deal, but he signed a 4 year $5.67M deal with 47 NHL games under his belt. He deserves to get paid on this deal no doubt but saying that he signed some crazy team-friendly deal back in 2021 is revisionist history. |

Definitely the difference in the game
And shesterkin made many great saves, as well. Could’ve been 8-7 or something wacky with average goalies, lol. These matchups could always go either way.
Lafreniere is hard to handle for FL. Last night maybe cements what was evident last playoffs, that, at least vs FL, they need to more Laf and less Zibby. |
