I do think that Jones would be a good option but right now he doesn't fit. If Trouba was gone it would be:

Miller Fox
Lindgren Mancini
Jones Schneider

But that won't be until next year (probably).

I'm still not sure Trouba will be gone next year. Lindgren cold be gone too but that is less likely, though I think it still makes financial sense to part with him.

I think it's because people assume if Jones doesn't play this year we will lose him. He's an RFA after this year, is waiver exempt, and hasn't been given a real shot. Mancini being so new is locked up through next year and is less likely to feel shafted if he doesn't stick this year.

Personally I don't care, I just want the best 6 D playing every night and if we end up losing Jones because of it, it is what it is.

The problem with jones is his he’ll never be bigger/taller. A slight defenseman can be really good or great but he needs to have a skill set like Fox or Quinn Hughes. This is probably why the rangers won’t give him a regular spot. Jones is decent but nothing spectacular where it makes up for his smaller body

Mancini is like a foot taller then Jones lol looks like it anyway

Schneider being good on the left side is big bonus for roster construction. And some idiot said to trade him a couple years ago

Jones has looked like he is a poor man's left handed Fox. I think having a mobile smaller guy paired with a larger guy is a good option. With the pairs I mentioned above you have that.

I think every single year since I have been on these Ranger blogs there's been a young Ranger defenseman not playing that everyone loses their minds over

That kid Hutson on Mtl oozes talent. He’s still really young and mistake prone, but he’s a small guy who will excel in the NHL eventually. I remember watching him in one those USA junior games and thinking this guy is going to be really good

I think Jones can play in the NHL. We did see and continue to see Nils Lundkvist struggle too though and he had a similar skillset and better draft pedigree than Jones, so who knows.

I'm a big fan of Mancini and am all for keeping him in over Jones, I was just pointing out reasons I think some fans are anxious to see Jones in the lineup. I wouldn't consider myself one of those fans though, I just want to ice the best roster possible.

It's funny looking back at those mid 2010s teams and looking at the players point totals compared to what we have now.

I remember the 2011-2012 season Del Zotto was like our offensive savior. He even got some Norris votes. I just looked and he had 41 points that year

I dont think the Rangers are resigning him. They could have signed him to a longer contract and didnt this off season. If Mancini continues to play well, its a long season and the Rangers are in win now mode, I wonder if they shop him at the trade deadline.

As it stands now, this team doesnt need a trade. Solid top to bottom.

I give Jan credit. A few times last year he mentioned him as someone to watch. Definitely a bonus since anyone drafted after rd 3-4 is generally a miss for the most part
