The Flyers main issue since the salary cap was implemented.

he is gonna roll out Jett, ND, and The Room™ - corduroy Ha ha, wouldn't surprise me at all. Smart teams have pairs of forwards that they keep together. It looks like Michkov and Coots have chemistry, and I 'd put TK with them and put Tippett with Frost (they seemed to have chemistry in the past). Then go from there.

I do watch the games, and I see a team that cares and is playing hard. Just look at Drysdale and Michkov's reaction after that empty net goal the other night against the Caps. You are going to tell me with a straight face that they don't care? There have been problems to start the season, no doubt. Goal tending in 3 of the games is a good place to start. You are going to tell me that Fedotov gave his team a chance to win in his 3 starts? When a team does not have faith in their goalie, everything else suffers. You should know that. Then there is 5v5 scoring. I think this stems from lack of chemistry because 1. the team has taken way too many penalties to start the season and 2. Torts just can't help himself and wants to keep juggling the lines. These things are all correctable. But none of them tell me the team has quit on their coach. That is just fantasy and nonsense. - jd250
they are just not that good is the bottom line.
pretty much same lineup from last year, chemistry is a lam BS excuse. |

3 wins in there last 20 or so games is not fantasy. Show me you care for 60 minutes a night not 30. Yes the goaltending on some nights has been sub par, but so have the amount of defensive breakdowns, the amount of mental errors. I’m telling you with a straight face this coach’s message is not being followed….you can chalk it up to bad luck, trying to hard, poor goaltending…but to me that’s the symptom of the bigger problem. Torts does not a have a full team every night doing their (frank)ing job.
If things don’t go your way early, you can’t let it snow ball….that’s a constant with this team. If they were actually playing and doing what’s asked you have that to fall back on when you get those so called “bad bounces” or you’re “gripping your stick to tight”. I’m not blaming the coaching for all of this teams woe’s ….but it pretty evident if you are watching as you say this is not the same team that played very good into the start of 2024. |

They are losing primarily because they lack talent, especially at C & D. Having one goalie playing awful doesn’t help either
They haven’t “quit” on Torts, but most players won’t miss him when he’s gone
They are a bad team, period. They will head into the lottery holding a pick in the 4-7 range.
Torts will “retire” after the season and become yet another senior advisor. Lucky us
They will make a deal around midseason involving multiple players and bring back another 2025 1st.
Colorado, due to injury and lack of depth, will just miss the playoffs giving the Flyers a pick in the mid teens.
With 4 1st rd picks and 3 2nds, they will make a move or 2 to move up in the draft. They will also, because they just can’t help themselves, deal at least one of those 7 picks for a current NHL player.

Very well said on all points. Listening to Russ and Bundy on Snow it sounds like Torts might be losing the room and it is a continuation of last year. Something is not right and all this "culture" (BS) they talk about is eroding game by game.

Yes, the Flyers are at best a bubble team. Michkov is 19 years old. He looks great but he by himself is not going to make this better than a bubble team. The Flyers lack strong center play and a 1D. Until they fill these positions, they will never be more than a bubble team. But the Flyers are certainly better an 1-5-1. |

Hypothetically, which I have doubts will happen. What if Tortorella steps down mid season. What will the talking points be. What about the culture, the standard being built? What about Tortorella being the spiritual guider of the franchise? It would be fascinating to see what line of BS they come up with.

They are 8-16-5 (so really 8-21) in their last 29 games -- That is over a 1/3 of the season

I think you have to recognize something tht is very different at the start of this season compared to last season. THERE IS NO CARTER HART on this team to save them from their mistakes. I have posted many times that I thought Hart was a franchise goalie and he was a lot better than some people on this forum would give him credit for. I think Hart and Ersson at the start of last year saved this team multiple times. They don't have that this year, and worse they have a backup who doesn't seem able to stop a routine shot from the point, never mind make a few saves above expected. The Flyers were 13-24 after Hart took a leave of absence. This is not a record that you can explain away. Did the team quit on the coach last year to cause this 13-24 record? I don't think so.

I think it’s easy to see. Like Bundy pointed out….problems from the year before don’t magically fix themselves. It Torts M.O. ….some guy love him and would go through a wall for the guy….Poehling, Laughton and Seeler….other guys I’m sure would rather a new voice giving them a new opportunity….Frost, Farabee and maybe even our captain….although I do believe he’s too much of a pro to ever quit on the coach, although his play since his benching would suggest otherwise. |

I do believe Torts treating Couts with downright disrespect has had a bad impact to the team. Not sure if Torts will recover from it unless he keeps Couts playing with TK and Michkov, and gives him 1st PP minutes. Starting the home opener with Couts as a 4th line winger was a slap in his face IMO. I didn't like it. |

Yes, but they will not finish ahead of Florida or the Leafs I predict. But up here in Boston there are rumblings ownership and Neely are looking to scapegoat Montgomery and blame him for the lack of playoff success. If the Bruins are wallowing just above .500 and looking listless, look for Montgomery to be canned and Jay Leach to take over down the stretch and into the playoffs. The hope is he will ignote a deeper playoff run. IMO, the Bruins are not that good and not built to win the playoffs. Swayman is overrated. McAvoy is overrated. Marchand is declining. Not a lot of young talent coming up. Not a good formula. Pastrnak can only do so much. |

Yep, was thinking the same thing.
Unless things go really bad I can't imagine DB and KJ make a coaching move. It flies in the face of everything they have marketed in terms of building a "culture and standard." You know the buzzwords they have been talking about sine Torts got here. Although, winning breeds culture IMO. You don't breed culture by sending your captain out there for his 800th game on the 4th line wing. They fact Couts wasn't even aware of it before the lineup posted screams culture to me - FFS.
Playing head games and constantly juggling lines all Torts has left in his bag. Yes, the have very little talent but this team looks lost and I don't think it is that far off to look at the Coach and how the players feel about him. This is just a a continuation of the latter part of last season.

Your analysis here is fantasy like most of your takes. Hart was at best an average NHL goalie and there is no evidence to suggest he was anywhere near the level of a franchise goalie. Something that you are incapable if recognizing.

Russ is pushing that narrative. Bundy doesn't think the team has quit but does say there is something not right with the team. He also said a Flyers source told him Drysdale is full Anaheim mode right now, and that is not a good thing. |

I'm quite sure that the players didn't like how Couturier was treated but that is not the issue here. Nor is the future of the current team linked to how Tortorella recovers from that decision.

Carter Hart or George Vezina? Yes he was better than everyone else, but it’s the lack of a 60 minute effort to me that points to a bigger issue. After watching the two games at home after a clunker in Seattle I was alarmed….I thought the Start to the Caps game back in Washington was alarming. Yes they woke up half way through the game, but how many times do you win games when you only show up for 30 minutes? This is something that has to be addressed or this year is going to be a step back. |

That tracks them to being a 1-5-1 team Again - they are not a good team, torts is not the right kind of coach for a "rebuilding" team. He is clueless as what to do that is evidenced by the constant juggling of lines and moving players in and out of the lineup on what seems to be a whim |
