Thoughts on Luchenko?
Odd he was benched for two straight. Torts coming around to he isnt ready or is he doing everything in his power to keep him around? My thinking is that if Torts still loves the kid and wants to keep him, the fact that the Flyers are struggling may make Danny and Jones lean towards sending him back so by scratching him it allows torts more time to try and right the ship. Im thinking if the team is doing well, there is a better chance they decide to keep him rather than keeping him to be on a bottom 5 team - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Never should have made the opening night roster and DB won't be the one to decide unless Torts is fired and Hilf loves Torts to death. Torts wanted him up, he's up. The only way he's going down is with Torts blessing.
I'm pretty sure Jones has no say over the roster. His job description is "he is responsible for leading the strategic direction for all aspects of the hockey operations department while collaborating on business goals". Executive jargon meaning he isn't in charge of anything. And even if he was, he's Torts wing man.
And DB? Who sends personal letters to the season ticket holders? Who eats GMs for breakfast? Who was presented as the messiah to bring back old time hockey to PHI? Who is the only NHL coach in history to watch his team play from the press box while shooting the poop with the GM while the assistants actually do the coaching? Who enjoys support without limits from Hilferty?
Not DB. John "soul of the franchise" Tortorella. |

I made the comment the other day that Tortorella is far from the worst coach that the Flyers have ever had. Starting to hear some small rumblings about firing Tortorella. I doubt it will come to that. It will most likely be a mutual stepping down rather than a firing. From there does he move into the sunset or into the front office. That is the fear. If he's not longer the coach but still the biggest influence. What is the difference in reality? |

Why would he step down and give up the money owed to him? Assuming they cut the cord completely. |

I think it needs to be a complete break. To me, it would make no sense to move him upstairs and still have any influence. You would have this look of "We don't trust you to coach the team anymore but hey how about you help us build it for the future".
I just think it would need to be a clean cut away and then Briere needs to really look and see if what they are building is truly the right direction

It would be better but I fear it won't. Hilferty and Jones both view Tortorella as the savior of this organization. As the guiding light to lead them back to the promised land. When in reality, he is a mediocre, archaic coach who is a far better manipulator than he is a coach.

Torts had a culture and a standard with a strong 68 game run last year. But losing will erode any gains Torts was partially responsible for. They were abysmal down the stretch….they appear to be in the same mode for the most part this year….whether it’s mutual or not he appears to be a coach that’s out of answers.
We saw this team win games with pretty much the same roster much of last year? So management must see they are capable of more? They see what we see. An unmotivated effort by many guys. That beyond any amount of losses is why I am not sure Torts will survive unless things change and change quickly. |

Blues had 2 goalies over .900 save % and a bonafide number one D in Pietrangelo. |

Comments about Couturier, while positive, are pretty damning for a player making $7.75MM for the next 5-6 years. Seems to be a trend....they paid him and are getting nothing, they paid Tippet and are getting nothing, they paid Farabee and are getting nothing..... - mr4tno
Yeah! All got that sold butter 🧈 but not getting paid face 😒 now. |

I don’t hate Torts but he’s becoming nearly impossible to defend…and I don’t think even history’s greatest hockey coaches could bring this team to 10 wins. |

I understand "The Standard" was heavily edited but they looked like they were on board. Again I think they wanted to show the world they knew what they were doing by skipping Buium and going with The Jett. Even if Buium couldn't make his team.

How does a standard and a culture erode sp quickly? Perhaps because that is really just fantasy and buzzwords thrown around. I don't believe in it. I'm also not sure that it's a lack of motivation. We saw all of this last season at times. Timing of it early just sets the context. Reality is, as I posted many times that it was fools gold and really what happened last year was not as it appeared to many. They were really just moderately improved. As always, it's about talent and skill. Everything else that the Flyers spew, is just advertising and selling points

people can run the narrative if they want but Torts doesnt have as much power as people believe he does. Torts is at the bottom of the food chain. At the end of the day Briere\Jones can fire him any time. Hilferty could prevent that in theory but chances are he is not involved that deeply with the team. Personnel changes are likely delegated to Jones\Briere. I dont think its impossible for Torts to be fired this season but he's going to have a long leash.
I do not expect Torts back next season. Just a hunch.

Your take is naive. Also, it's not true that Briere/Jones can fire him at any time. You're forgetting that there is a trumvirate in place and that it's 3 equal co branches of government. It's a guarantee that if they want to fire Tortorellla, they have to get approval from Hilferty. The guy who has the most influence is the guy who is actually in charge. That's Tortorella. You're the same guy who argued about the alumni and the old guard when they were essentially running the team.

Okay…it’s comments like this that are very naive and believe me, this is one out of hundreds a day on this board. Briere, Jones and Torts are in lock step. Nobody is making Briere and Jones do anything. |

I didn’t watch “the standard” but this idea that the managers are afraid of the coach in anyway shape or form is a fantasy. I don’t even know why anyone would think this. Jones I’m pretty sure worked with Torts in broadcasting at one point. Jones loves Torts. |
