So I guess Craig Berube gave it to some of his stars on the bench tonight. I really miss Peter Laviolette turning bright red when our players don’t show up. The TSN panel just pointed out that Jim Montgomery really gave it to Brad Marchand a few nights ago on the bench. Brad Marchand spoke to the media himself and said he was fine with his coach outing him. It would be a real problem in their dressing room if he didn’t. It’s just crazy to me how that we all know Torts is a flawed coach but you don’t see him really yell at the players…at least not since the Brink defensive mistake of the last. Frankly I think Torts is almost John Stevens like calm. I think I want another Laviolette who will rip the players and push the button like Lavi would do with his timeouts. Outside of scratches, I don’t think the players are held accountable enough. I’m seeing too much “oh poor so and so” on this board when a player gets sat or doesn’t get his way. |

Okay…it’s comments like this that are very naive and believe me, this is one out of hundreds a day on this board. Briere, Jones and Torts are in lock step. Nobody is making Briere and Jones do anything. - roenick97
I think Torts is pitching the ideas. 💡 And Brière & Jonsey just follows suit like blind sheep's 🐑 |

So I heard that Seeler and Torts had an incident on the bench the other night. It apparently was a heated discussion about something. I find this interesting because Seeler is obviously one of the leaders of this team. Is this another sign that the players have had it with Torts' BS? |

I don't know if the players have had it with Tortorella's BS. I would say that if that is true, then it's just a regular occurrence and something that Tortorella prefers.

He is gradually getting tuned out when they realize his ideas are unsound and archaic. While the losses piles up, and the execution of his archaic hockey ideology gets lost in his daily BS and mind games. |

I don’t hate Torts but he’s becoming nearly impossible to defend…and I don’t think even history’s greatest hockey coaches could bring this team to 10 wins. - roenick97
Yea, I don't hate him either but never thought he was right for this team. I don't buy the mind games bs but I do think he's not good for a younger team like the Flyers.

If they do move on …it’s just as important that they get the right guy to replace him. - landros 2
Yes, absolutely! I'm not sure who that is, but I want to see someone who will properly develop guys like Brink, Foerster, etc. As mentioned in the last post, I don't buy the mind games stuff, but I do think Torts' style isn't the right fit for a younger team.

How does a standard and a culture erode sp quickly? Perhaps because that is really just fantasy and buzzwords thrown around. I don't believe in it. I'm also not sure that it's a lack of motivation. We saw all of this last season at times. Timing of it early just sets the context. Reality is, as I posted many times that it was fools gold and really what happened last year was not as it appeared to many. They were really just moderately improved. As always, it's about talent and skill. Everything else that the Flyers spew, is just advertising and selling points - MJL
Any winning team has a standard. There is a right way to play the game…to buy in to what the coach wants….follow the system…be held accountable when you don’t and hold others accountable to play the right way withi a teams system….last year for the most part they did….somewhat playing above their talent level. To me culture is being proud and having an identity for your organization. The Flyers have a proud history, one that has really disappeared in the last decade. To get that back and strive to compete and win should be every teams goal. These are things that don’t last or at least suffer when you don’t win.
Now do I buy the whole marketing campaign that focus’s on these things? No . To me you don’t win when guys don’t meet a standard. How can you? I realize you don’t like Torts. I think his tactics have started to run their course. I think he had guys all buying in last year until the final 12 games or so. I think he did a decent job, but unless he can get these guys back to that buy in that he had going last year, this team's talent level won’t be able to overcome the lack of a consistent effort.
Anyways that’s how I see it…again just my opinion. |

That is interesting as on HB, Seeler is a Torts guy who plays the Flyers way. I could see it though as has been noted on here that when they were winning, they could deal with it. Since the slide late last season and now...they will get sick of Torts. I'm curious to see how the powers that be handle it if the Flyers continue this skid. Hopefully the master manipulator will let them part ways with him.

Bob…fastest goaltender to 400 wins.
Always good to see former Flyers get accomplishments…one day one will happen for an active Flyer.
During his HHOF induction speech he will thank the Flyers “Best thing to happen to my career was when I was TRADED, thank you” |

Michkov is as advertised. Can you all imagine what his ultimate potential is? As he grows and matures he’s going to become so dangerous. His attitude seems to be very competitive. He’s getting his nose dirty, isn’t afraid to go in to the corners, sees the ice amazingly. The future for him looks bright! As he matures, imagine what he’s gonna be able to accomplish if the Flyers are able to draft some elite talent (1C anyone?). |

Even the worst teams in the league get 20 wins so odds are they will go on a run at some point and someone will proclaim they've turned the corner thanks to their culture.

Torts has a shelf life wherever he goes. I think last year at the beginning was the peak Of his tenure. So far I don’t see any signs of life for this team. |

Even COL was lost in the wilderness when they had their #1C until they found their #1 dman. Getting that transition game going is important. IMO, while both are necessary, you won't see real results until that dman is found and please don't tell me it's Drysdale.
CHI and SJ potentially have both pieces, Flyers have neither. Hell, the Sharks might have gotten both in one draft. Good planning on their part, Flyers will stumble along in the darkness as always.
The Flyers are that friend with the big ideas who is always asking for money but never has a job. Winning a cup sounds great and it's fun to talk about but to do what's necessary? |

How do you feel about your boy Montgomery not lasting the season as Bruins coach. If the Bruins continue to falter he will be fired very soon is what I am hearing around here. Wasn't too long ago you were saying he was the modern coach that the Flyers needed, and then he shoves the captain of the team on the bench. Nice! |

I really don't get this narrative. What evidence is there that the team has tuned Torts out? They seem to care about winning and losing to me. They are certainly not giving up in games, evidence being down 4-0 to the Caps and came back and almost tie it. Still looks like they are competing hard and blocking shots.
No, there is no evidence the team has tuned Torts out. Just more fantasy from those that like to make up drama and get this coach fired. Guys, its not happening! Torts will coach this year and maybe next, or he will move to the front office as an advisor next year. He's not getting fired mid season. Unlike Montgomery in Boston who will be fired mid season.
What you see right now is a frustrated team that is squeezing their sticks because early on they have had no puck luck and missed a ton of opportunities, plus they have got bad goal tending in 3 of their first 7 games. This is not the 2021 Flyers. They will turn things around at some point soon. |

Never should have made the opening night roster and DB won't be the one to decide unless Torts is fired and Hilf loves Torts to death. Torts wanted him up, he's up. The only way he's going down is with Torts blessing.
I'm pretty sure Jones has no say over the roster. His job description is "he is responsible for leading the strategic direction for all aspects of the hockey operations department while collaborating on business goals". Executive jargon meaning he isn't in charge of anything. And even if he was, he's Torts wing man.
And DB? Who sends personal letters to the season ticket holders? Who eats GMs for breakfast? Who was presented as the messiah to bring back old time hockey to PHI? Who is the only NHL coach in history to watch his team play from the press box while shooting the poop with the GM while the assistants actually do the coaching? Who enjoys support without limits from Hilferty?
Not DB. John "soul of the franchise" Tortorella. - Flyers_01

Hockey systems and strategy of play such as the low zone collapse that the Flyers play or the 2-1 spread forecheck, that's not a standard. Every team has that yet every team doesn't win. Other poster such as MB said it best. The Flyers think culture leads to winning. It doesn't. Winning creates culture. You win by building a team of skill and talent and the right mix of players along with sound coaching and strategy. All of that other nonsense is just talking points and BS. Just buzzwords that are thrown around.
