After trading for Krebs, drafting 7 1st round F's and recently trading away a 2/3 C, having to make that trade is the indictment.

No, it is not.
Gate Revenues are down, among the lowest in the league thereby suppressing the increased valuation when the NHL market for teams is on turbo charged steroids. He is missing an opportunity to have higher than average valuation growth of +33%. His organization is already underperformed the market by 20%, whereas on a percentage basis his team should be outperforming the market...say like achieving 40% growth or better. Utah, is a unique situation grew their valuation by 70%.

Investments like :
- dedicated and qualified PoHO
- experienced GM that has actually rebuilt struggling rosters
- spending to the Cap on the right players and rewarding proven leadership, not entrusting the roster to the most skilled or oldest players.

Those investments likely improve the on-ice performance that in return drives public interest and support, translating to higher gate revenues through higher attendance at higher ticket prices.

With things Revenue sharing, a given franchise's value is far more reflective of league performance as a whole than its individual performance. The league's two US television deals (with the Canadian one up for renewal soon) have far more impact on the Sabres' value than anything the Pegulas do internally. As long as the checks they write clear, they won't be hurting in that department. It's the sad reality.

The fact that gate revenue for the Sabres has tanked since before Covid and the franchise's value has still increased reflects this.

It wasn't a bad trade. Sold high, bought low. They got another puck moving LD and had to overpay for a 3C a couple months later. Not a great look. Might get better or worse based on Byram's next deal/trade.
