In my 19 years of writing with HockeyBuzz, I've never before written a narrative version of a game day blog.
Some of those topics -- the specific dynamics of Sean Couturier's line with Travis Konecny (on left wing) and Matvei Michkov (now back on his off-wing as he prefers)
In fact, I'd like to see them as a line and given a chance by head coach John Tortorella -- meaning to leave them alone as a trio for longer than few shifts or a single period of it doesn't click instantly -- to work things out together. - bmeltzer
It's always nice when you still have happy 1sts 19 years into something.
It doesn't seem like that should've taken 9 games to try, unless they tried it earlier and i missed it.
Wasn't Torts up 23 or so different line combos after yesterday? Maybe he will calm down now that he has his 2nd win.
At some point the offensive players will regress to near their mean and the shots will go in of more concern is how bad the defensive players and structure have been. Not to mention neither of their goalies playing up to par.
Chicken egg situation? Maybe with Ersson but Fedotov has not shown any NHL qualities other than his 6'7" frame.
Ian and Tortoella have the same "coach with your head up your ass" philosphy. From Totorella insisting grinders like Poehling and Hathaway are top 6 and ND is an actual hockey player to not dressing Gendron and Rizzo for has been/never was' players...

A fun game to watch for a fan, lots of offense, but still very porous defensively. Why Hathaway is getting more ice than Foerster is beyond me. Give the kid some linemates and let him play!
"His minus-12 is more a matter of the team being hemmed in the defensive zone much "
Well isn't Frost part of that group that gets hemmed in? - hello it's me 2050
Yea frost is just simply not good, if he is not getting points he is a problem.
I know it's not the popular opinion or 1 that is shared, but frost even on break outs he trys to dance around defenders and it generally ends the break out before it even starts. A lot of ppl think he is a second line center but i just don't see it

I’ve seen more than enough of Ryan Poehling for a season, get rid of torts little pet - ClaudeFather
Problem with Poehling is he’s the same sort of player as both Cates and Laughton. That guy Centering Michkov was a bridge to far for me. Both him and Laughton are apparently allowed to take dumb stick violation penalties and see their next shift…on a regular basis…...Brink makes a bad pass on a pp 3 games ago and hasn’t seen the ice since….doesn’t matter that he was one of the better players the entire preseason.

Swyer Boulton dressing for LHV is a crime. - hello it's me 2050

That has always been the issue with Tortorella. He takes his favorites to the extreme. He loves grinders like Poehling, Laughton and Hathaway. He benches Frost again, not that his play has been above that but he's far from the only one. The Flyers have one line going. They need to find other combinations. For some reason Frost and Tippett are not showing some of the chemistry they have shown in the past.
It is unique thinking dressing both Deslauriers and Hathaway in the lineup and on separate lines.
Hathaway for me shows Torts inconsistencies in accountability. When Brink had those stick infractions and made a mistake on the PP, he was coming out. Yesterday, Hathaway gets an elbowing while on the PK. In the Torts accountability chart, pretty confident this is less egregious because Hathaway is a Torts guy.
This example is why Torts gets tuned out over time. You cannot talk about accountability for the entire team then players get exemptions. Not like Hathaway this season has not done other stupid things to help the team.

always a caveat when it comes to frostsky with you.

I agree having both in the lineup is redundant. Personally, I’d just play GH but as you say, hold him accountable when his ntocs hurt the team.
Give the skilled players an Fn chance!
The lines should be:
TK-Couts-MM
Tippett-Cates-Brink
Farabee-Frost-Foerster
Laughton-Poehling-Hathaway
Yes, in a perfect world, the L2 center would have offensive skill, but this is what they got to work with so, oh well.
And just staple Nic D to the press box. He’s useless and doesn’t belong in the NHL at this point. Just waive whichever Russian goalie blows the most and bring up Lyksell to be the 13F

Yes. I agree. Foerster should get lots of ice time and brink should not be scratched. Play them on a consistent line and let them learn.

So bad, I have hope he can play like a 4th line center but he is horrible right now. Hathaway too
Maybe the line juggling is part of the tank. Who to keep and who to get rid of come trade deadline. How do you get guys with NMC to leave? Play em on poop lines.

Michkov is arpidly becoming one of Torts' favorites, as I predicted, so he can take Michov to the extreme all he wants.
